March 2017 Gratitude List

It feels so strange to be saying goodbye to March already. I felt like I waited so long for it to come around (I was super excited for my birthday) and I kind of wanted February to be over with, but March went by in the blink of an eye! That'll teach me for wishing my life away. Despite the month flying by, there were some things that made it really fab and worth the wait!

  1. My new job - if you've been following my blog over the past couple of months or taken a look at my Twitter, you'll know that I went through some sort of crisis which resulted in me getting a new job as a cook and baker in a local tea room. I've been working there since the start of the month and I'm really loving it. It's exactly what I wanted - fast-paced, challenging and all about food! Whilst it is hard work, it's super fun and I've met some really great people because of it. It's also helped me to realise how badly I want to open my own tea room! I try not to get caught up in thinking about it, seeing as though I know nothing about business, but it's a huge ambition of mine.
  2. The clocks going forward - yes, I would've appreciated the extra hour in bed, but seriously, how much are we loving the bright mornings and evenings? I'll admit, sometimes I don't enjoy the sunshine streaming through my curtains, but I much prefer it to waking up in pitch black darkness. I'm just waiting for the weather to get a bit warmer now. I'm so ready to wear lighter, spring jackets instead of my cold-weather coats!
  3. Having the best family ever - as I mentioned above, it was my birthday this month (I put up a post about the things I've learned in 23 years, if you'd like to take a look) and my family did all they could to make it amazing for me. As I was working for most of the day, J treated me to breakfast in bed with a gorgeous card and presents, one of which was a stand mixer! On the evening, we went out with my family to a Turkish restaurant, where we all ate too much meze and beautifully seasoned lamb. If you've read my funfetti drip cake post, you'll know that my sister and I bake each other's birthday cakes, so this year, she made me a three-layered chocolate cake with caramel icing, topped off with caramel and fudge pieces. It was bloomin' lovely! Despite having to work, I really enjoyed the day and I'm so lucky to have a bunch of people around me that care enough to make it so special!
  4. Not having to wake up at 6am - this sounds so daft, but in my office job, I used to dread waking up at 6 every morning to get myself ready for the day. Now that I'm in my tea room job, I don't feel as though I need to wear makeup, which means that I haven't needed to wake up stupidly early at all. It took a while for my body to get used to, but my body clock has stopped waking me up at 6, which means I usually get a great night's sleep.
  5. The walk to work - there are times where I opt to walk to work instead of driving, purely because I just love the journey! Depending on how quickly I walk, it takes me 30-40 minutes to get to the tea room from my house, but I get to walk through the park and take in some fresh air before heading into the kitchen. I find that it clears my head and lifts my mood, even if the weather is a bit grim. It's also nice to get in a little bit of gentle exercise and it means that I make a load of progress on Pokemon Go!
So, it's a fond farewell to March. You've been good to me and we've had a really great time, but it's time to see what April has in store. Nothing personal!

I'd love to know what you were grateful for in March!

  1. Yay! You're doing something that you love which is incredible!

I'm happy that your days are getting lighter-mine are getting darker. The sun rises later and sets earlier...but I guess that's Autumn for you!

I'm so glad that March has been good for you! I hope April is even better (and filled with A LOT of good cake).

    1. I always seem to forget that the seasons happen at different times around the world! I bet it's still nice and warm there though.

Thank you for your lovely comment, Steph. You KNOW that there will be a ton of cake! x

    1. Yes! I was a little annoyed to lose an hour of sleep at first, but I'm fully appreciating the lighter nights and brighter days, so it was worth losing that hour in my opinion! x
