July 2017 Gratitude List

Usually, I'm not a fan of these "I'll pretend to be looking at something interesting in the distance while you take a photo of me" photos, but oh em gee, there was a heron on that log and I was so chuffed at how close I was to it! You can kind of see it near the trees - that black and grey blob. Anyway, enough of me waffling on about me gawking at nature, it's a new month, which means a new gratitude list. I feel like July flew by in the blink of an eye, but as always, there were plenty of things to be happy about.

  1. Going to Saltburn Food Festival - I am a food festival and local food lover, so when it was announced that Saltburn would be hosting their fifth food festival, I just knew that I had to go! Luckily, J was also given the day off, which is such a rarity, and we were both able to go along and enjoy the day. I really wanted to take pictures and make a blog post out of it, but the festival was absolutely packed and I could barely move, let alone take photos! We had a great day though, despite the odd rain shower. We bought a variety of things, including chorizo bread, sausages, curds and cake (of course), all with the view of the sea!
  2. Meeting my replacement at work - this sounds like it wouldn't be a happy thing at all, but I was getting worried that my boss wouldn't find a replacement for me, but she has someone who is absolutely brilliant and fits in really well. I felt guilty enough to be leaving less than a year into the job, so imagine how awful it would've been if my boss didn't find a replacement! We've got a lot of training to get him through before I leave in September, but he's more than capable, which makes me more than happy.
  3. Getting my first paid post - last month saw me get offered my first paid post and to make things even better, it was a baking post! I never ever set out for this to become a source of income, but multimedia journalism and online content is something that I've been interested in pursuing for a while now, so knowing that brands enjoy what I do is a massive boost for me. So while I had so much fun doing the baking and writing and being paid for it, I'm so excited for how it will help me in my future career.
  4. The cooler weather - I realise that this is a bit of a contradiction, considering in my last gratitude list, I said that I was loving the warmer weather, but after being burned one too many times, I was about ready for the cooler British weather that we're known for. I'm also massively looking forward to the darker nights - cosy blankets, slippers, hot chocolate and a good film while it's dark outside is just the best!
  5. Going to British Summer Time festival - it felt like I'd been waiting so long for British Summer Time festival to come around, as we'd booked the tickets in January and it wasn't on til early July. It was so worth the wait though! As I've expressed many a time on my blog, I'm so bloomin' in love with The Killers and White Lies, so getting to see them both in one day was just incredible. It made for lots of dancing and voice-crippling scream-singing. Plus, it's not very often that I get to go to London, so that was an extra bonus to the trip. I'd say that this was definitely one of the biggest highlights of the month for me!

It feels so surreal that we're over halfway through the year now, but I'm so excited to see what the next few months will hold for me!

    1. Oh man, I can't wait for autumn too! There are trees in my local park that are growing conkers, so it's just around the corner!
