Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir* And A Chat About Influenster

9 Nov 2017

It has been a heck of a long time since I did any beauty-related posts on here. In fact, the last time I did one was back in September, which is too long ago if you ask me. Luckily, an amazing parcel from Influenster landed on my doorstep recently, and I was itching to tell you guys all about it. You may have already seen on my Twitter or Instagram, but the fabulous people over on the product testing site sent me the Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir mascara*. Insane, right? Well, let's talk about it in detail.

But hold on a second, what exactly is Influenster? You may have heard a lot of people talk about it, especially recently as the blogging world has definitely caught on, but not a lot of people know what it is or understand how to use it. I first came by it through watching a Grace F Victory video, and she described as a site that just gave you free things. I thought 'brilliant! I'll have loads of content for my blog and I'll be able to discover new things.' Grace was partly right, but what she didn't explain was that you have to be selected to be sent things. Ok, so once you sign up, you tell the guys a bit about yourself and what you're into. From there, you answer surveys and write reviews to build up your profile, then if you're lucky enough, you'll get an email one day to say you've been picked for a box! When you receive the box, all you have to do is share it on your social media following Influenster's requirements and test it out. It's simple as! I'll admit, at first, I had no clue what I was doing, but if you do want to get involved with the site, just keep using it to build up your profile and interests, then you'll have more chance of being picked! If that sounds up your street, then you can sign up here (Influenster will donate $1 to Movember for every person that signs up through this link, so now is the time to do it!).

When the 'you're in' email pinged into my inbox, my jaw practically hit the floor. This was the first time I'd been chosen to receive a box and I couldn't believe I was being sent something so high end! I was pretty much pacing the house just waiting for the box to come, but luckily for me, it came within 3 days of the email being sent. I dropped absolutely everything to take a look at what was inside.
The first thing I loved about the mascara was the sleek packaging. It was popped snugly into a blank and white, Marc Jacobs emblazoned box (which I thought was pretty huge until I saw the size of the actual tube), and it felt so luxurious to hold. I'm not sure if that's just because of the brand or because I'm a weirdo, but I felt so posh whilst holding the box. I opened the box to find that the mascara itself was pretty much the exact same size and let me tell you, it is chubby. The tube is so chunky yet it still feels light to hold, so it's not uncomfortable - in fact, because the lid is chunky too, it makes gripping on to it and applying very simple, but I'll talk more about that later. I loved that it was in a hexagonal shape too. For me, that's something quite unusual and sets it apart from other mascaras. You could pick the shape of this tube out quite easily in a line up!

I kind of expected to see a big fat wand when I unscrewed the lid, but thankfully, I was greeted with a slender, slightly hourglass-shaped wand. If you look at the photo above, you can see that there's a slight dip in the bristles, which is great as that shape helps to lengthen the lashes on the outer and inner parts of the eye, as well as the centre. Usually, I like a wand that has fairly long and thick bristles, as I know that they'll coat my lashes 100%, but I'm pleased to say that this wand does the job perfectly.

I'll admit, I was a little concerned that because the bristles are so short and spaced apart, the mascara would get caught in between and make my lashes look clumpy. I know that this is a look that a lot of people go for, but not me. I like my lashes to be volumised and lengthened, but in a way that looks natural and flattering. Well, this product does exactly that! Every time that I've worn this mascara, I have had so many compliments - someone even asked if I was wearing falsies! The length that it gives is something that needs to be seen to be believed. My eyes have never looked so dramatic, and I've found that it pairs perfectly with a cat eye. While a lot of product gets deposited on to the lashes, I'm yet to have a problem with it becoming too thick or clumpy. It's also ridiculously easy to apply, like I said previously, and I think that this is thanks to the chunky lid. I feel like having something much larger to hold on gives you a lot more control, which, combined with the fairly short wand, makes for very simple application.
Something else that I've been massively impressed with is the staying power of this mascara. I often wear this to work and I'll do quite long, hot shifts, yet it doesn't budge. I haven't had trouble with it smudging or even flaking! It really is a miracle worker and keeps my lashes looking jet black and super long all day.

As you can tell be this glittering review, the Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir mascara* absolutely has my seal of approval. I feel like it's almost impossible to go wrong with it as there are stacks of positive aspects. The retail price is £22 and while this is a luxury price, it is certainly worth it! I am yet to have a bad experience with it and I'm fully sure that I won't have one at all. This is one of my new favourites and I'm going to be heart broken once it's empty! I guess it's just an excuse for me to buy another.

Thank you to Influenster for sending me this gorgeous package. If you like what you've read and want to get involved, don't hesitate to sign up!

All items that are marked with a * have been sent to me or gifted by a PR company for review purposes.
