December 2017 Gratitude List

31 Dec 2017

Woah, hang on a second, something is a little different here! It's true, normally I post my gratitude lists at the beginning of each month, talking about the month that has just ended, but that's not how I want to start 2018. Plus, my schedule meant that I could squeeze one last post into December, so why not round it off by talking about what was great in the month?

  1. Having a lovely Christmas - it was always going to start off with something Christmassy, wasn't it? I'm usually not big on Christmas Day - it's all about the build up for me - but this year, there was something better about it. I can't quite put my finger on what it was though! It was a lovely day and even though a lot of it was filled with a crying baby, I still really enjoyed myself. It was also the first time that I actually got to spend some of the day with J, which was so so nice. Normally, he goes off to his dad's until Boxing Day, but this time, he came back early and we got to spend the evening together. Everyone seemed to be in the best mood and I received some gorgeous things that I'm so grateful for, so yes, I had a fab day!
  2. Allowing myself to have some time away from uni work - I had about a week or so where I didn't touch any uni work at all, which is kind of naughty, but oh man, it was so good for my mental health. I was getting too bogged down in trying to get everything finished before Christmas and it was stressing me out like you wouldn't believe. I made a conscious effort to take some time out for myself and just chill out a bit. I came to realise that I was getting stressed over nothing and as I sit here typing this now, I've literally just finished an essay almost two weeks before the deadline, so that goes to show that time out is healthy!
  3. Being a granny - this may sound so daft to a lot of people, but I really appreciated the fact that I'm a 20-something granny during December. I was stocked up on pyjamas, slippers and blankets when the cold weather came, I had teas coming out of my ears, and a whole bunch of crafts to keep me occupied. Seriously, if you haven't tried the granny life yet, you should!
  4. Discovering new skincare - I'm a bit rubbish when it comes to skincare. I could chat to you all day about makeup, but skincare - I haven't a clue! I've been to a couple of No7 events with the WI group that I volunteer for, and every time, I end up thinking to myself that I should invest in some of their skincare, and now I have! The Christmas angels over at Boots put one of the huge gift sets up as their star gift and I just couldn't help myself. I'm now living the life of hot cloth cleansers and eye creams!
  5. Christmas baking - of course, I had to round off this little list with something related to cake. I've absolutely loved doing my Christmas bakes this year and I'm so chuffed with how they all turned out, especially my Chocolate Rudolphs. I had so much fun planning them all, so to see them all come to life was an absolute joy. Same time, same place next year ok?
What a lovely way to see 2017 out, right? I would love to know what was great about December for you! I'd also love to know whether you've set yourselves some goals for next year.

See you all in 2018!

Whould you like to comment?

  1. What a lovely list! The best thing about December for me was totally getting to see as many members of my family as I did. The food was pretty excellent too! x

    1. Oh that's so lovely, Anna! I'm glad you had a good month x

  2. Gratitude lists are such a great idea Olivia! And I love this one - anything Christmas/Wintery I'm up for! I'm so glad you had a nice Christmas and I totally agree, time out away from uni work is so good for the mind and you most definitely deserve it! I too absolutely love the granny life - winter = tea + cosy everything for me!
