January 2018 Gratitude List

2 Feb 2018

Hooray, January is finally over! It feels like the month was years long and I was about ready for February to arrive. Also, can we talk about the weather? Why has it been so blinking cold? It only felt right to have a cup of tea as the header photo for this post because that's what I've been living off the entire month. Despite how long and cold it was, it was also a really good month and there were plenty of great things that happened for me to share with you all. So let's get right into the first gratitude list of 2018!

  1. Getting my business module marks back - by far, one of the best things that happened in January was getting my last marks back for a university module. As I mentioned in my 2018 goals post, I received an 85 for an elevator pitch and that was weighted at 50% of the module. Well, a couple of weeks ago, I received the final marks for my business plan and I received 80, which means that my grade for the module is 83! I was so bloomin' chuffed with myself that we had a takeaway treat for tea. I put in so much effort, so I was pleased to see that it had paid off. This has given me such a boost in confidence and has pushed me to keep working hard on my Masters.
  2. Moving a step closer to a diagnosis for J - I'm sure he won't mind me saying, but back in September, J had a seizure at work, complete with muscle spasms and convulsions. Of course, he was rushed to hospital where he was shifting in and out of consciousness. It was honestly the scariest day of my life, but this whole month his been full of hospital appointments to try and get to the bottom of why it happened to him. We've got everything crossed that it was just a one-off seizure, but whatever comes his way, we'll handle together.
  3. Seeing Lady Gaga - how could I write this post without mentioning my one true love? I'd had tickets to see Gaga in Birmingham (I meant to buy Manchester tickets but ended up clicking on the wrong date - oops) since last January, so when the day came around to finally see her, I was ecstatic. As always, she was absolutely amazing, and I'm pretty sure that even J had a good time.
  4. All of the content I published - last year, I feel like I struggled with content ideas for January, but this time around, the writing just flowed. I had so many post ideas that I wanted to get up and as soon as I'd scheduled one, I was itching for it to be published! I was less strict with myself on what was going up on my blog, which allowed me to do lots more beauty-related things - an area that often gets neglected on this blog - and I thoroughly loved creating each of them! I'm hoping that I'll have more baking posts up this month because I finally have my student loan, as well as some more beauty bits.
  5. Letting go of things that I can't change - I'm someone that knows how to hold a grudge and I'm kind of good at being cold, but this year, I'm making a conscious effort to loosen my grip on those types of things. Something really horrible happened to me a couple of years ago and now that I'm in a situation where I have to work with the person that it involves, I'm trying to let go of it a bit. Of course, I won't forget that it happened, and while I can't change history, I can change my attitude and be a better person for it. I'm not sure if all of that makes sense, but yes, January has been the month where I've started to think about the present.

There are plenty of other little bits and bobs that I could have included in this list, but 5 is such a good number that I'm not about to change the way I do these lists. Even though it was a good'un, I'm glad it's over. It's time to see what the rest of the year holds!
