February 2019 Gratitude List - Appreciation and Opportunities

The gratitude lists are still going strong! I will admit though, finding time to sit and blog has been difficult, so I'm a bit surprised that I've got this post up so soon. People weren't lying when they said that blogging and working full time was hard, but I'm sure I'll settle into a routine soon. But for now, blog posts will be a bit sporadic, as you may have noticed. Enough about all that though, let's talk about the nicest bits of February.

As we all know, February is the month of love, and I have to admit, this February has been pretty darn lovely!
  1. Bagging a full time job in marketing - if you read my January gratitude list, you'll know that I was stupidly close to getting my first ever grad job. In February, it was confirmed that I had been selected as the new (and first ever) digital content executive for Crafter's Companion. In fact, I wrote a whole post about how I got the job, so you can take a look at that if you'd like a bit more detail! But yes, I started my full time job last month, so I've been there for a few weeks now. You guys know how much I'd struggled with finding a job, so it was such a relief to finally find one that I felt suited me in a field that I was interested in.
  2. Fitting in - ok, I guess I'm cheating a little bit, but this point is all about my new job too. I'm massively shy. At home, I could talk on and on, but when I'm around other people, I tend to be a bit of a wilting violet, and that's something that I thought would be an issue in my job. However, I'm part of the nicest team ever and they didn't even pay me to say that! They've made me feel so welcome and not once have I felt like a spare part. It feels so good to have started in a role and got settled straight away. I can see myself being there for quite some time!
  3. Having my work appreciated - I promise, this is the last work-related one. My new job has been the biggest part of my month, so of course, it was going to take up most of my gratitude list. So, as I said in the first point, I'm the first ever digital content executive that Crafter's has had, so I really wanted to make a good impression. I've been working my absolute socks off and tackling new things to try show that I'm pretty good at what I do, and it's definitely been paying off. I'm still not mega confident about my writing, but to be told that I'm doing an amazing job and that I'm a breath of fresh air is just so so nice. I think we all like to be appreciated, so being nothing but appreciated in a new job has been lovely.
  4. Receiving a blogging opportunity - I don't know if it's the time of year or whether my content has been pretty rubbish lately (I've actually loved my content this month), but I had next to no opportunities in February. It's a weird situation because I blog because I like it and I like having my space to write whatever I want, but at the same time, I really like taking on blog opportunities, even though they feel more like blog "work". I don't know if that makes sense, but yes, my blog email inbox has been a little dry. However, I did get a VIP invite to My Bloody Valentine at Scream Factory*, which was brilliant! I love working with Scream Factory, so this was a great opportunity and it was the perfect date night for Alex and I. So while I would like to take on some more opportunities, I massively appreciated the one that I got in February!
  5. Having the most supportive fella in the land - is this even a gratitude list if Alex doesn't get a proper mention? I swear, I would've been completely lost in February if it wasn't for that guy. Starting a proper 9-5 was weird, but because he's been there and done that, he's been a fountain of advice and the greatest support when I've been feeling a bit burnt out. He reminds me constantly that I am capable of things and is always down for a cuddle if I need one. He also planned a whole day out to Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby, which was very much needed! He's always a gem, but he was an extra shiny gem in February.
Much like January, February has been a month of big changes for me, but it's been amazingly exciting changes. I'm feeling really positive going into March, not just because it's my birthday month, but also because we've got some stuff planned and I'm looking forward to reflecting on my work progress.

Let me know your best bits from February!

  1. I love gratitude lists and this has reminded me I haven't made one in a while! Congratulations in the new job- I'm so glad you're settling in okay. I think the new year is typically quite dry on blogging opportunities generally so don't be too hard on yourself!
