June 2019 Gratitude List - Moving Home and Baseball

1 Jul 2019

I feel like this is just the stock thing to say at this time of the year, but holy moly, can you believe how quickly this year has gone? We're past the halfway point, which completely freaks me out because it feels like I'll blink and it'll be Christmas! But let's not get too ahead of ourselves - I'm here to talk about June. This was a pretty turbulent month for me and I had a lot of uncertainty about things and what felt like never ending stress. However, there's always positive stuff to pick out, so take a look at the things I was grateful for last month!

  1. Discovering that I actually like foods that I thought I didn't - that was a bit of a mouthful, wasn't it? But basically, even though I consider myself a foodie and will always try new things, there are a fair few foods that I just can't stand. I also have a funny sort of phobia of sweetcorn, so there's that. In a bid to get me to re-try things that I thought I wasn't a fan of, Alex has been experimenting with cooking a bit more. We had the most amazing cod fillet on a bed of lentils and pancetta, and oh wow, it was glorious, so cod gets a little bit of a tick from me now. I'm actually looking forward to see what he comes up with next.
  2. Moving house - this is still an ongoing process and probably will be for the next few months, but yes, Alex and I are finally in our first place together. It's been a rollercoaster of a time and it hasn't half tested our relationship, but we're getting there. If you want to find out more about all that's been going on with that part of my life, you can follow along with the Our Second Hand Home series! There's a big dramatic backstory and I'm planning on doing a whole load of updates, so I like to think that it's well worth staying in the loop.
  3. Getting involved in really cool collabs - for a little while, it felt like brands had become a bit bored of my content. On one hand, this was alright because I like what I post, but on the other hand, it was a bit disheartening because I absolutely love working with brands. However, June felt like a really good month for collabs. I got involved with a couple and I was asked to get involved with some in July! I've got some really exciting things coming up on here and Instagram (possibly including my first ever quick makeup video... but we'll see how things pan out), so keep your eyes peeled.
  4. Visiting London and watching the baseball - I booked a trip to London back in April as a present for Alex. He'd heavily hinted that he'd like to go and watch the Yankees vs. the Red Sox, so I tried to bag some tickets and missed out. Fortunately though, a second round of tickets was released and I managed to pick two up! I booked us first class trains and a 4* hotel to really make a trip out of it, and we had a fab time. Granted, the baseball wasn't really my cup of tea (try sitting in 32c+ heat for over 5 hours - not fun), but Alex loved it and I really enjoyed the touristy park hopping that we did the next day. I should be putting up a couple of posts about the trip soon, so watch out for those!
  5. The kindness of strangers - it's so easy to look at the world right now and think "what a pile of steaming poo this all is". While I can appreciate that in the bigger picture, everything is kind of terrible and the planet is dying and the whole place is being ran by idiots, over the past month, I've been reminded that there good people. I can't even begin to tell you how generous people have been when donating things to Alex and I for our house. And while not everything has been collected yet, we've been given all sorts, from a bed frame to a microwave, to more exciting things like a slow cooker and a leather armchair. It really has given me just a little glimmer of hope!

I hope your June was just as lovely as mine, so tell me all about it in the comments! Let me know what made your month great.
