9 Teesside Eateries That Are Doing Takeaway During Lockdown

Forgive me for sounding a bit like a old lady reminiscing on the war times, but I remember when it was announced at the start of lockdown that all of the restaurants and foodie spots needed to close down. I was gutted! I'm someone who loves getting dressed up to go out for dinner, or call in on a local coffee shop whilst out and about, or just support the local food scene in general. I was worried that our thriving food sector would take a real hit and it made me genuinely upset.

But lucky for us, there are some incredible eateries who are persevering and offering takeaways on Teesside, which I'm sure we're all incredibly grateful for! It gives us the opportunity to order and enjoy our favourite meals from home, as well as keep the foodie scene in Teesside alive. I thought I'd put a list together of just some of these fantastic businesses, so you can plan your next takeaway night and maybe discover somewhere new to try!

1. Ted & Ginger's, Stockton
If you've been keeping up with my posts, you'll know that I featured Ted & Ginger's in my '10 North East Food Spots I Want To Try After Lockdown' post and while I definitely still want to go along and have a sit in experience, I can easily order their food to my house too! From beautiful sourdough pizzas, to parmos with rave reviews, to their brand new 'bad lad burger' menu, it's a place that's got something for everyone. I'm more than tempted by their goat's cheese, mozzarella and caramelised onion pizza... totally drool-worthy.

2. Olivello Ristorante, Middlesbrough
As you can probably tell by the name, Olivello Ristorante in Linthorpe is a popular Italian restaurant that is still serving up their gorgeous pizza and pasta dishes to us Teessiders. The best bit is that they haven't reduced their menu, so you can still get the full a la carte, Sunday dinner and steak night dishes to your doorstep. If you fancy a sharing platter of antipasto, it's totally within reach. Got a hankering for their spaghetti bolognese parmo? It can be yours in one phone call. Want to try some of their veggie and vegan options? You're in luck! This is a great all-rounder choice, particularly if you're in Boro.

3. Lebaneat, Yarm
If you're a fan of Mediterranean food, like me, then your best bet is to order from Lebaneat in Yarm. They've made it so easy to order too! You can either order via their website or download their app, then you'll have piping hot lamb koftas at your door in no time at all. Their menu has a whole host of classic dishes, like moussaka, shawarma, falafel and of course, kofta, but they also have lots of options that won't be so familiar to a casual Mediterranean food fan. That makes it a fantastic choice if you fancy trying something new! I'm definitely interested in giving their sambousek lamb a try - it sounds super yummy.

4. The Tea House, Middlesbrough
One thing I can definitely prescribe to make this lockdown go by a little bit more smoothly is copious amounts of cake. I'm pretty sure The Tea House in Middlesbrough also stand by this belief, as they've kick started a delivery service to bring you cupcakes, brownies and mystery cake boxes to your door. They'll be taking orders from Monday to Friday, then bringing your sweet treats on Sunday, ready for you to wind down and enjoy them with a cuppa. For delicious homemade goodies, their prices are reasonable and they're a fantastic choice if you want to have a DIY afternoon tea experience at home.

5. Hardwick Arms, Sedgefield
At the time of writing this, the Hardwick Arms in Sedgefield haven't started their takeaway service yet, so this is a bit of a cheat, but from May 15th (2020), they'll be offering up a host of fan favourites that they'll drop at your doorstep. From fabulous flatbreads, brioche burgers and parmos, to the Herd & Herb signature Sunday roasts, they'll have a small, but well-formed menu that offers something for even the fussiest of eaters. Their T.H.A.T bacon cheeseburger is calling my name, along with the char-sui pork shoulder flatbread and trio of meat Sunday dinner. Oh, did I also mention that they offer desserts too? Make sure you check it out!

6. The Copperstone, Middlesbrough
Thai food isn't something that I've delved too much into, but I've heard absolutely brilliant reviews of The Copperstone. This little restaurant in Linthorpe village serves up authentic Thai cuisine and Pan Asian fusion, so if you're partial to a katsu curry, this is where you need to head. There's a huge assortment of dishes to choose from, like curries, noodle dishes and stir fries, as well as mouthwatering sharing platters and a Thai-inspired parmo. When in Boro! If you need convincing anymore, go and check out their Facebook page for photos that will get your tummy growling.

7. Lost Property, Yarm
Yarm is a hot spot for foodies and one place that's a great all-rounder is Lost Property, who have been massively popular since lockdown started. I've seen photos of their parmos all over my news feed! They've got a great takeaway menu with lots of choice, which includes sharing boards, parmos, burgers, salads and so much more. Even I find it way too difficult to choose just one dish - I'm currently torn between meat feast parmo and the bacon and brie melt with chunky chips. They also have a kid's menu, so I definitely recommend Lost Property if you've got a house of hungry mouths to feed.

8. That Cake Ltd., Saltburn
You guys remember what I said about cake being the best medicine to help this lockdown go by? If you're out in the coastal towns of Teesside, as well as Boro, Norton, Stockton and Ingleby Barwick, you'll be able to get your fix, thanks to That Cake Ltd., a trendy coffee shop inside Lilian Daph's. Their cakeaway service includes boxes of brownies, a lucky dip of cake slices and the ultimate cakeaway grazing box. Seriously, if you want to get your sweet tooth tingling, go and take a look at their site - it's enough to turn any savoury fan into a cake lover. Their Instagram is also to die for.

9. Tomahawk Steakhouse, Yarm
Steak is one of those things that's a real treat when you're out for dinner, especially when it's done right. And now, with the Tomahawk Steakhouse takeaway in Yarm, you'll be able to have beautiful, butter-like melt in the mouth meat in the comfort of your own home. While there are other Tomahawk Steakhouse's in the north east, the Yarm branch is the only one doing takeaways - how lucky are we? They offer Friday, Saturday and Sunday delivery or collection, and you can get steaks cooked just the way you want them, of course, and Sunday dinners. This is definitely a top choice for the meat lovers among us!

So there we have it! I've tried to give a good spread across the Teesside area, but there are absolutely more than 9 places offering takeaways in our region. The easiest way to find out is through having a look on Facebook or calling up and asking directly.

While I'm counting down the days until all of my favourite restaurants and eateries can open again, these takeaways provide us with the perfect opportunity to support our foodie faves from afar. It's something that I think will be massively appreciated when the doors are opened again! So if any of these places have taken your fancy, get your order in and leave a review on their Facebook or website!

Where will you be ordering from next?
