Clever Crafts - The Independent Tees Collective

3 Apr 2021

When it comes to gift giving, what could be better than something completely personal and customised? I know that I for one love anything with my name or monogram on, because it's unique and meaningful to me. And with today's Independent Tees Collective post, I'm sharing a biz that can help you achieve just that. Whether you're looking for bags, bottles, tea towels, Christmas decorations, wooden signs, slate or something else entirely, Clever Crafts can help you.

Clever Crafts have no boundaries when it comes to the things that they can customise, and are always willing to chat about your ideas and turn your dreams into a reality. No matter whether you need something for a birthday, Christmas, Valentine's, or an anniversary, this biz can cater to all occasions. If this sounds like something that's right up your street, check out the rest of this post to find out more about Clever Crafts!

Hello! Let's start with a bit of an introduction. Who are you and what is your business all about?

I'm Codie Morrison, the owner of Clever Crafts and I'm 27 years old with two little girls, aged 3 and 1. My business, Clever Crafts, is all about personalisation. Mugs, pyjamas, slates, hand sanitiser bottles, keyrings - these are just a small portion of what we have to offer!

Where did the inspiration for Clever Crafts come from? What made you want to kickstart it?

I have two children aged 3 and under, so when it came to me returning to work, I wasn't able to afford the childcare for two children privately. My partner and I decided to invest in something that would be a hobby, and potentially start a small business. I used to order clothing, blankets and hats with the girls names on, and thought I would love to be able to do it myself. Clever Crafts started with making hair bows for my little girls and just expanded from there!

What is your favourite thing to customise?

I've recently started doing sublimation and this has become my favourite thing to do! Using specialised inks and a heat press, I am able to transfer designs and photos on to slates, keyrings, clothing, mugs, and lots of other products! My favourite thing is slates as they can be on show all year round and it's always nice to have memories.

What do you enjoy most about running Clever Crafts?

I like that I can work around my family and my schedule when completing orders - it makes things so much simpler for me! I love when customer's receive their orders and tell me how much they love the products. It makes it all the work truly worthwhile. Getting to speak to new people almost daily is another thing I enjoy, as I get to make new friends as well as customers.

What has been Clever Crafts' biggest achievement so far?

My biggest achievements running Clever Crafts has been hitting 1600 likes on Facebook! I never imagined hitting 100, never mind 1600! I also completed an order for a huge company back in July for our personalised hand sanitiser bottles with the company logo on and I was so proud!

What do you love about the Teesside independent scene?

I absolutely love how many different small businesses have been created in the past year alone! From wax melt companies to personalisation companies, I have used a lot of them. I love that even though there are so many small businesses, we all still buy from each other and support each other too.

What's next for Clever Crafts? What do you hope for the future?

I am hoping that 2021 is going to be the best year yet for Clever Crafts. We've only been up and running for about a year and a half, and I can't believe how far we've come. All I am hoping for is for the business to carry on the way it has for the last year, and if things get bigger and better, that's a plus for me.

And finally, recommend one other Teesside independent to us!

It's hard to choose just one independent business to recommend as there are so many out there now, but I have to recommend Sweet & Unique Cakes. We have had monthly treat boxes from Abbey since the start of the first lockdown in March and her creations are amazing!

There really isn't anything that Clever Crafts can't customise and as you can see from this post, she's so passionate about the work she does. Codie takes the time to understand what each of her customers need and produces super high quality products for a range of styles and occasions. She's absolutely fabulous, so don't hesitate to get in touch with her for all of your personalised gift needs. Make sure you check out Clever Crafts on Facebook and Instagram to see more.

Make sure you check back for another incredible Teesside independent!
