Teesside is such a rich place for independent businesses. There are plenty who stick to the local area and bless us with their products across the region, but there are also oodles of our businesses who are going global. They're flying the flag for the Tees, whether they're loved nationwide or internationally, and one of those businesses is homegrown fashion brand, Lielle Womenswear.

Lielle is a Redcar-based business, owned by a sister duo, and has become quite the cult brand. With thousands of followers across social media and influencer star endorsements, they are absolutely taking the world by storm. If this sounds like something you need to know more about, check out the rest of this post and get your orders in!

Hello! Let's start with a bit of an introduction. Who are you and what is your business all about?

We are Lielle Womenswear, a fashion brand based in the North East. We proudly design and manufacture our collections in small runs right here in the UK, something that is few and far between in our current climate. We specialise in luxury holidaywear, and our creations have been worn and loved by big names such as reality star and influencer, Chloe Lewis, singer and TV presenter, Rochelle Humes, and British model, Vogue Williams.

Where did the inspiration for Lielle come from? What made you want to kickstart it?

Danielle and I started Lielle in 2017 after years of working alongside each other within the fashion industry. It was a natural progression to kickstart our own venture, as we both have a huge passion for fashion and business. The two of us are sisters and from a young age, we both had visions of bringing our creations to life, and Lielle has allowed us to do exactly that. We draw inspirations for our designs and collections mainly from our love of the beach. We grew up on the coastline of Redcar and the seaside holds a big place in our hearts. We are sun and hot weather worshippers, so a focus on unique holidaywear is something we knew we'd always be full of creative, unique ideas for.

Which piece of clothing has been your favourite to design and why?

Our favourite piece has to be our Balie Top. It's not only a fave between us two, but amongst our customers who've loved to wear it, and the celebrities who've reached out to us for it! It was one of the first designs we created in the very early days and soon became the best seller. It's still our most popular design to date! However, our Khloe Top, released late 2019, is fast becoming a competing design and is almost pipping the Balie to the post! We are excited to see who the Khloe Top will be worn by in the future!

What do you enjoy most about running Lielle?

We both enjoy different aspects of running Lielle - for Natalie, it has to be the freedom to create, followed by marketing with photography and social media. It always amazes us how we can create something from nothing, and once we showcase the product and story behind it, our customer base are fully immersed in the concept as much as we are! Danielle loves to work within all aspects of the business, from email marketing to manufacturing. Being a business owner means you have to wear many hats, but it allows you to explore and experience so many job roles that you'd not tackle in a usual job.

What do you love about the Teesside independent scene?

The Teesside independent scene is unbelievably supportive! There are new start ups popping up on what feels like the daily and it's amazing to see. There is so much support between everyone. We have recently been attending some online networking with small to medium size businesses in the area, and we always leave them truly inspired! The support the Teesside public continue to show is incredible - not a week goes by where we don't have an order from a TS postcode and it's been like that since the day we launched. We believe that we live in such an entrepreneurial and supportive area.

What's next for Lielle? What do you hope for the future?

Well, we feel like we may have just made it through the pandemic, yay! At one point, we weren't sure we'd get here, but we confidently feel like we reached the other side! We utilised the last year and spent a lot of time streamlining our business for a more clear focus for when things return back to normal, so we look forward to putting our changes into practise. Summer is just around the corner, so we are in full swing prepping for that. We have recently been approached to be involved with a concept store for local creatives in Teesside Tees Valley Airport, so we look forward to seeing where this opportunity takes our brand.

And finally, recommend one other Teesside independent to us!

We could list so many! Here's a few we fully recommend checking out, starting with That Cake & That Pantry for amazing sweet treats and luxury cooking produce. We also love Betty Leigh Boutique for smart and casual womenswear - they stock amazing, unique brands. And Shop Sabi for beautifully handcrafted and hand painted jewellery!

It's so amazing to hear about such a successful fashion brand that is based in our little corner of the UK. We all know how important social media is in marketing these days, and Lielle have nailed it - from the influencers they work with, to harnessing their ideal demographic, to their Insta-worthy photos. I'm honestly very excited to see what they come up with next and see where the business goes in the future. If you would like to see more from Lielle, check them out on Facebook or Instagram, or start shopping on Lielle online.

Make sure you check back next week for another incredible Teesside independent!
