Good Parmo Guide: The Best Takeaways In Teesside For A Parmo

8 Jun 2021

Us Teessiders know that you haven't lived until you've had a proper dirty takeaway parmo. If you want something a bit upmarket, there are plenty of amazing restaurants for a parmo, but for something quick to have at home, or something greasy to soak up the booze on a heavy night, a takeaway is the way to go. Now, there are a huge amount of takeaways to choose from across Teesside, and I don't know about you, but I like to know the best spots before I put an order in.

If you're like me, then you're in luck! I've asked my Instagram followers to help me out with the second part of my Good Parmo Guide to highlight the best takeaways in Teesside for a parmo. And the suggestions came out in full force, so I've compiled them all into an alphabetical list to help you find your next takeaway for a banging parmo.

What is a parmo?

If you're from across the pond or possibly even outside of the North, you may not have actually heard of a parmo before. To put it simply, a parmo is a breaded and fried cutlet of chicken, topped with bechamel sauce and melted cheddar cheese. It originates back to World War II, when a United States chef was wounded and brought to a UK hospital for treatment. He moved to Middlesbrough in 1958, opened a restaurant on Linthorpe Road and created the iconic Boro dish. And thank goodness he did because we all absolutely love them!

4thewkend, Middlesbrough

This is a new spot for my parmo repertoire, but 4thewkend was massively recommended in my Insta DMs. It's super unique in that the majority of the menu is customisable - I'm talking about create your own loaded fries, burgers, pizzas, and of course, parmos. Both their plain and jazzy parmos look absolutely incredible, so 4thewkend is high up on my 'to try' list.

Unit 1C, Brighouse Road, Riverside Park Road, TS2 1RT. Order from 4thewkend through their website.

Abbey's Pizza, Middlesbrough

Abbey's was my staple takeaway when I was at university. Right from when I lived in halls to when I moved out of my Boro home of 6 years, it was my go-to. It wasn't far away, they offered fab deals, and their parmos were just incredible. They were the kind that had a good amount of bech and cheese that just oozed off the side. It's an ideal spot!

94 Corporation Road, Middlesbrough, TS1 2RB. Order from Abbey's through their website.

Belle Vue Fish Shop, Middlesbrough

Belle Vue has always been memorable for me, thanks to the giant anchor and banner on their shop - plus, their food is fantastic. While this spot is loved for its fish and chips, many people ADORE their parmos too. I'm talking about generous portions and golden cheese that just melts over the edge. It's an ideal choice for the Marton and Longlands area!

B-L-D's, Redcar

One of the best things about B-L-D's is that you can actually choose to take away or sit in, so you can enjoy a parmo and a change of scenery if you fancied! You'll find B-L-D's in Redcar Rugby Union Football Club, and I've seen them all over Instagram. They serve up massive parmos with sides of chunky chips, burgers in branded buns, and a whole host of other snacks. Get this one on your list!

Crusty's, Darlington

People came out in their droves to recommend Crusty's in Darlington as a perfect parmo spot, and for very good reason! They've got so much choice, and mix classics like plain parmos and hotshots with new flavours, such as Hawaiian, Tandoori, and Bolognese. This is a fab choice if you're out in Darlo with a mega parmo craving.
