The 5 New Palettes In My Collection

4 Jan 2019

Hi, hello, this is the same girl that said that she wanted to start using up her makeup instead of buying more just a couple of posts ago. I'll be the first to admit it, I'm weak when it comes to eyeshadow palettes, but I'm putting myself on a strict spending ban until I've used up some products, I promise. However, this post isn't about shaming me for being unable to resist temptation - it's about the 5 newest additions to my palette collection.

As I've said many a time on this blog, I'm an eye makeup person. I struggle to branch out from makeup products that sit firmly as one of my holy grails, but I have zero problems with trying new eyeshadow palettes. This is probably why my palette collection keeps growing, no matter how many times I clear it out and give some away. What can I say? I'm just a sucker for a pretty shade range and an opaque metallic! If anyone was interested, I could do a whole post on my palette collection... who knows, it might even prompt me to start "panning" some of them! But enough about my current collection, let's chat about these brand new ones that I've recently acquired. (Side note: please forgive the terrible lighting in these photos. I took them quite early in the morning in a mad dash before my goddaughters came over for the day, so they aren't the best quality, but you get the jist.)

Makeup Revolution's Life on the Dance Floor - Guest List
I received this beauty of a palette from my mum as a Christmas present. I am a sucker for warm tones, so this was an absolute hit with me. I love Makeup Revolution's products because they show that you can get amazing quality at an affordable price, and this palette is no exception. I've already used this to create a deep, burgundy red look with a cranberry shimmer over the lid, and it worked like a dream! As you can see from the swatches, the mattes are ok, but the metallic shimmery shades are gorgeous. It just goes to show that you don't need to pay an arm and a leg for a bold look. This palette is exclusively warm, red-based palette with 24 shades, so it's ideal for those of us that want our eye makeup to pop.
Swatched left to right - Unorthodox, Extraordinary and Individuality

Makeup Revolution's Pretty Rare
I think that this palette was part of a 'spend so much and get this for free' sort of deal, but either way, I'm very excited to have it in my possession. This also came from my mum at Christmas and I was instantly captured by that yellow shade (although the swatch leaves a lot to be desired... I'm hoping I can get a bit more pay off with a spritz of setting spray on the brush)! I've been looking to experiment with more yellow tones, so this palette is ideal for me to see how it looks and to figure out how best to use such a colour. I'm quite used to monochromatic palettes that stick to one theme or colourway, so this is a pretty unique palette in my collection and I'm looking forward to seeing what I can achieve with it. I'm also looking forward to trying that larger shade on the left (Out Of This World) as a highlighter! But yet again, how stunning are those two metallics in the swatches above?
Swatched left to right - Baja, Smog and Big Sky

Urban Decay's Born To Run
I had been umm-ing and ahh-ing over whether to get this palette or not. It looked like it was the perfect palette to travel with, hence the name, but it also seemed like so many other palettes I'd seen before. After popping into Debenhams and having a little swatch of it, I was completely sold. And luckily for me, my grandad kindly bought me it for Christmas, which I wasn't expecting! But I'm head over heels for the shade range and the great mix of mattes and shimmers. I'm yet to be disappointed by an Urban Decay palette and I'm certain that this one won't be the first. I'm looking for any excuse at all to use the green and blue shades - is it acceptable to wear mermaid-style makeup in your day to day life? I'm considering doing a first impressions and a full look type of post with this, so let me know if that's something you'd be interested in!
Swatched left to right - Steady, Brew and Glitz

Morphe's 24G - Grand Glam
I had no intention of buying this palette. In fact, I didn't even know it existed until I saw it on my sister's Christmas list. I ended up buying it for her, then letting curiosity take the better of me and looking at the shades in person. I was instantly heart eye-ing over it and decided to keep the one I'd opened for myself, and buying my sister a new one. Call me crazy (because that could be quite possibly what I am), but loooooook at it! Yes, it's pretty similar to Makeup Revolution's Life on the Dancefloor, but I'd bought the 24G before I received it. However, the formula is definitely better and there are some unique shades, like Steady, which is so much more metallic in person. I wore this all in my crease and slightly smoked out, paired with a gold all over the lid for a Christmas Eve look and I loved it. Unlike other Morphe palettes, the 24G features larger pans, so it's gonna take me a while to finish this baby off, but I'm going to have so much fun trying!
Swatched left to right - Prick, Donor and Root Canal

Jeffree Star's Blood Sugar
And last, but certainly not least, we've got the mac daddy, the palette that I have been lusting over since it was first announced. Yes, it's the coveted Jeffree Star Blood Sugar palette in all of its glory. In my head, I was like "I'll only buy the palette if it's in the Boxing Day sales" knowing fine well that it wasn't going to be in the sales. I also had no clue if it would be in stock, but lo and behold, there it was on Beauty Bay and it definitely wasn't in the sales. But I threw all caution to the wind and bought it anyway, and she is just beautiful - even more beautiful than I expected. I knew I was going to love it, but I didn't realise just how much. I'm obsessed with wearing red tones and berry shades on my eyes because I feel like it really brings my brown patch out, so I'm looking forward to getting super creative with this. I have to say though, I'm already impressed with those finger swatches, particularly Donor. Again, this is another palette that I'd love to do a whole first impressions post on and maybe include a look, so let me know if I should do that!

Please hold off on shaming me - I promise there won't be another post like this any time soon! But what you can expect is plenty of content on here and Instagram featuring me using these palettes up, so keep your eyes peeled for that. For now though, I'm still enjoying the newness of them and being too afraid to touch Jeffree's and Urban Decay's too much for fear of hitting pan straight away.

Do you own any of these palettes? Which one do you like the look of the most?
