Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventures, creative workshops, or somewhere to keep the kids entertained for a few hours, there’s no shortage of things to do. It’s a great chance to try somewhere new, revisit a local favourite, or simply make the most of the holidays without travelling far.

Enjoy an artisan dessert market, live demonstrations from bakers and chocolatiers, hands-on workshops, a family Sweet Street Trail, and street entertainment. Plus, Beamish Museum will showcase the history of ice cream in the North East with traditional ice cream-making demonstrations and historic artefacts.

Darlington By The Sea (FREE) – Head to Darlington for nine days of sun (hopefully), sea and sand for this ever-popular annual family event. Darlington by the Sea’s beach-themed event runs from Saturday 18th to Sunday 26th July. From 11am until 4pm each day, families can enjoy free sandcastle building in a giant sandpit in the market square, sand arts, crafts, rides and other attractions.

World Cup Family Fest at STACK Middlesbrough – This high-energy, interactive show celebrates the excitement, passion and global spirit of international football! With live entertainment, audience participation and football-themed challenges to create memorable moments. Little Birders at RSPB Saltholme – Join us for four new nature sessions, aimed to help you and your little ones explore the natural world around you! Code Club @ Fab Lab Hartlepool Community Hub Central (FREE) – A fun and exciting opportunity for 9 to 13-year-olds to learn computer programming through designing games, animations and more. Summer Art Club at House of Foliage – For the school holidays, the lovely David Palmer of Palmer Illustrations will be holding an art club every Wednesday throughout August here at House of Foliage, the plant shop by the sea. This time the classes will be dictated by the children, we want their imagination to soar, David will be on hand to encourage and offer his expertise. From 2-4pm.

Drop into our woodland area and explore the natural world through hands-on bushcraft experiences. Fossil Hunting on Skinningrove Beach with Land Of Iron – Walk down on to a beach that was once home to millions of prehistoric creatures, far beneath a tropical sea. Comb the beach with our staff and volunteers to find fossils, or even a nodule of ironstone if you’re lucky.

End of Summer Party at Hopetown Darlington (FREE) – Make the most of the final days of the summer school holidays with an unforgettable day of family fun, live entertainment, and exciting activities. There’s something to delight visitors of all ages so gather your friends and family, soak up the atmosphere, and help us send summer off in style.

Daisy Chain Fest (FREE) – Head to our farm for a fun-packed day filled with live music, stunning summer stalls, amazing inflatables and children’s games, fun on the farmyard with pigs, alpacas, horses and lots, lots more… all in support of the autistic and neurodivergent community.

Great North Air Ambulance’s Helifest – Helifest is back for another spectacular summer’s day of music, entertainment, food and fun for the whole family. As well as entertainment for all ages, we’ll also have a range local artisan stalls for you to browse, and some delicious food and refreshments for you to enjoy.

Rapid Racer Inflatable Session at Billingham Forum – Climb, jump and slide as you race against your friends to conquer the Rapid Racer inflatables!
