Bottomless Brunching By The Bay With Turtle Bay Middlesbrough* #AD

Ahh brunch, the amazing meal that we all love, but only ever indulge in once in a while. There's nothing quite like going out for a brunch date, whether you decide to have late breakfast or early lunch, but one thing's for certain - one way to make it even better is to make it a bottomless brunch! With all of the restrictions that are being enforced these days, we've got to get our cocktails in early and what better way to do it than with breakfast food?

I've loved Turtle Bay for a while now and it's somewhere that I'm always hyping up to my fella (who had never been until this experience!), so when we were invited along to try their brand new bottomless brunch, we just couldn't say no. The thought of unlimited cocktails, delicious food and the fun Caribbean-themed surroundings sounded like the perfect mix!

On arrival, we were reminded of the COVID measures, which included scanning the Track & Trace app, a one-way system within the restaurant, table service only and sanitiser on every table. It was pretty thorough and I definitely felt safe whilst tucking into our food. All of the staff wore face coverings too, but were still able to chat to us about cocktail recommendations, which I definitely needed!


FOOD
Luckily for us, Turtle Bay have got bottomless brunch figured out and they've dedicated a portion of the menu to the experience. With the brunch, you'll be able to have any breakfast, burger or roti (some dishes do have an extra surcharge, which is added to the bill on top of your bottomless brunch). These can be paired up with a range of sides (again, these have a surcharge) and, of course, unlimited drinks, including cocktails, pale ales, Red Stripe, tea, coffee and so much more.

Because I was so intrigued by a Caribbean-style breakfast, I had to go with something from the morning menu. With a Jamaican twist on a Full English and a Curry Goat Hash, both of which sounded fantastic, I struggled to choose, but in the end, it was the Honey Bunny Yardbird* that I went for. Featuring a roti stack with buttermilk crispy chicken, cream cheese, real maple syrup, hot sauce and watermelon, it sounded like a real feast and it was something I was eager to try!

The chicken was definitely the star of the show in this dish, as you can see above. It was super crispy, but the meat was tender and juicy. The exterior had an amazing crunch and a slight heat that was cooled by the cream cheese. The rotis made fantastic pancake substitutes and the extra watermelon pieces brought just a hint of sweetness to the dish. It was absolutely gorgeous and it's something that I'd order again in a heartbeat.


For Matthew, breakfast was over and his eyes scanned quickly down the menu to the burgers. We love a good burger and I knew exactly which one he would choose - the Shack Stack Burger*. This little tower of joy contains a beef patty, jerk bacon, cheddar cheese, onion relish, baby gem lettuce, tomato, hot sauce and BBQ sauce... basically, everything you could ever want in a burger! He also chose to have the sweet potato fries* as a side on my recommendation because honestly, the sweet fries in Turtle Bay are just out of this world.

As you can see from the photo above, this burger was just oozing sauce and juiciness, so Matthew knew he was in for a treat. The perfectly toasted buns housed a scrumptious, tender beef patty that was so delicious when paired up with the oozing cheese and jerk bacon. There was a touch of heat from the jerk, but the main flames came from the hot sauce, which really spiced up the whole dish. Of course, the sweet potato fries were on point as always, and the whole meal went down a total treat. Our plates were spotless by the time our waitress came back!

DRINKS
Of course, the main pull for bottomless brunch is the cocktails and we absolutely made the most of the extensive menu. Turtle Bay is famed for its huge cocktail list and happy hour (10am - 8pm, by the way), and there were plenty on the menu that I hadn't tried yet, so I really went big.


I'm a fruity kind of gal, so I stayed in the realm of sweetness and away from anything too punchy, starting off with a Virgin Raspberry Reggae*. This was an alcohol-free drink with a sour kick and a vivid, raspberry red colour. And after I'd had my mocktail, I decided to let go a bit and actually have some alcohol. Matthew offered to drive, after all!

There were plenty of drinks had across our table, including the Classic Mojito*, the Passion Rum Punch*, the White Caribbean* and the Jumbled Julep*. It's fair to say that I came away feeling pretty merry, and it was the White Caribbean that had my heart. This particular cocktail wasn't fruity at all, completely steering away from my usual drink choice. This was more of a dessert cocktail with Koko Kanu, white chocolate liqueur, passion fruit and coconut milk. It was honestly like drinking a milkshake! It didn't last long before Matthew had to have one of his own to try and we were both head over heels.

If you like what you've read then make sure you book with your local Turtle Bay at least two weeks in advance to make sure that you get your spot! Bottomless brunch runs from 10AM - 3PM every day and the slots are for 2 hours each time. For £27 per person, you can enjoy any breakfast, burger or roti, plus unlimited cocktails, mocktails, Prosecco, craft lager, pale ales, Red Stripe, tea, coffee or juice (supplements apply).


Make sure you head along to this vibrant, fun restaurant and give this experience a try! It would be a great way to catch up with a friend or just to treat yourself. I especially recommend it if you're looking for food with heat and colourful cocktails.
