I don’t think there’s anyone on this planet that doesn’t like a roast dinner. In our family, a roast has always been a bit of a coming together and catching up with everyone over some delicious food. But going out for Sunday dinner isn’t something that we get to do too often. So when Lost Property invited me and Matthew down to give their roasts a try, we absolutely couldn’t say no!

Getting to Lost Property Yarm
Before I dive into chatting about the food, let me give you the lowdown on the location. As the name would suggest, you’ll find Lost Property Yarm on the gorgeous Yarm High Street, just as you cross over the Yarm Bridge with the iconic viaduct view. For your satnav or Maps, it’s 135-137 High Street, Yarm, TS15 9AY – that’ll take you straight to the door!
Now if you’ve been to Yarm on a weekend, you’ll know how difficult it can be to find a parking spot. On a Sunday, the street parking is free, so I’d say to try and arrive a few minutes before your roast booking, and drive slowly down the high street to spy a spot. It can get really busy, but hopefully you won’t have too much trouble. However, if you do struggle on the high street, there are some car parks set back from the main road, which you can take a look at here.
How much does a roast at Lost Property cost?
Knowing that Lost Property is a hot spot in Yarm for steak, seafood, and cocktails, I had expected a premium price tag for their Sunday dinners. However, the top price is £14.50 for the roast picanha beef joint (served pink or well done) and the lowest is £12 for herb roasted chicken – see the full roast menu here. And when you see just how many trimmings you get, these prices will seem even more reasonable!

Sunday dinners at Lost Property Yarm
How amazing does that look?! As you can see, I opted for the picanha beef served up pink, and it was just perfect. The colour of it was so rich and my steak knife sliced through it like it was butter. It was cooked exactly how I liked it and it went down a total treat.
As you’ll be able to see, my plate was already fully loaded with food before I even added my sides on. And that’s because every dinner is served up with a huge Yorkshire, beef dripping roasties, stuffing, roasted root veg, and an individual pot of red wine gravy. This is alongside the cauliflower cheese and seasonal veg (we had red cabbage, green beans, sprouts and green cabbage), so you get a real bang for your buck!

For Matthew, it was all about the roast pork loin chop with house chutney, and feast your eyes on that presentation! There’s just something about the chunky pork chop with the bone curving up towards the Yorkshire pud. And look at the crackling just falling away from the meat, and the little pot of chutney! The whole thing is visually gorgeous and I hear from M that it tasted even more amazing. In fact, he said that this was the best Sunday dinner he’s ever had – a true, direct quote!
And I’d have to agree, it really is up there with some of the best. The meat was incredible (and locally sourced), the roasties were crisp with fluffy potato inside, the Yorkshires were gigantic, and the veg was cooked perfectly. I’ll even say that I don’t particularly like cauliflower cheese, but I could’ve eaten the Lost Property Yarm cauli cheese allllll day. It was just sensational!
Every single thing was spot on and we were both stuffed, then Maria, the manager, offered us the dessert menu…

Of course we couldn’t resist dessert, what do you take us for?! There’s always room for a pudding, especially with a Sunday dinner. Matthew opted for the Wispa Gold cookie dough, which was loaded up with chocolate, caramel and honeycomb, and topped with a caramely ice cream. It was so incredibly indulgent and naughty, but the ideal thing to follow a roast. He definitely struggled to finish it, but didn’t want to waste a single bite, so polished off the whole thing.
For me, I wanted something like a winter warmer or a classic Sunday dinner pudding. And luckily for me, I didn’t have to look too far as the mulled cider apple and fudge crumble jumped out at me right away. I don’t know about you, but mulled cider is up there with mulled wine as a contender for best winter drink, and the idea of having it with a fudgy kick was just too much to resist. It was blinkin’ amazing, especially with the extra custard, and I couldn’t get enough. I also loved that the crumble topping had oats in to give it a lovely texture. I’d happily have another bowl right now!

We absolutely loved our trip to Lost Property Yarm and were so happy with our meals. We were completely stuffed by the end of it and had to be rolled home, but every bite was divine. We’ll definitely be back to find out how good the parmos are!
