The Copper Kettle, Hartlepool
While The Copper Kettle is small, it isn’t half mighty. The food that this place serves up is just incredible, from their cooked breakfasts to their afternoon teas. But the pancakes are truly a sight to behold! I’m talking about stacks of fluffy pancakes with all kinds of toppings, like Snickers, apple crumble, Biscoff… the list goes on. Visit them Wed-Sun from 9am-3pm.

Sunday, Guisborough
If you want somewhere extremely Instagrammable, and amazing for plant-based and gluten-free diets, Sunday in Guisborough will be your new best friend. This spot is the sister to Maple and Dough (which is actually just a couple of doors down) and is home to a menu of smoothie bowls, toasts and most importantly, pancakes. The banana and peanut butter gets a big fat recommendation from me!

Baker Street Kitchen, Middlesbrough
Baker Street Kitchen give you the best of both worlds when it comes to pancakes. They’ve got options for those of us who like a simple dish, like blueberry pancakes, and those who like to be a little more out there, like the bacon and maple syrup. Plus, they’ve got a fantastic selection of hot drinks to compliment your pancakes, including more unusual choices, like chai and reishi latte.

Cactus Cafe & Kitchen, Darlington
Cactus Cafe & Kitchen is a real hidden gem in Darlington and located right near West Park, so you can have a walk after your food. This spot has a whole menu dedicated to pancakes and includes some incredible creations, like the Elvis-inspired peanut butter, bacon, banana and maple syrup stack, or the Brucey Bogtrotter – brownie or chocolate fudge cake, berries, Nutella and vanilla ice cream. This is definitely one to try!

The Spa Hotel, Saltburn
For pancakes with a view, try The Spa Hotel in Saltburn. Their whole breakfast menu is a delight, but their pancakes are extra specially good. You get three buttermilk pancakes with a selection of toppings, including banana, caramel and yogurt, or white chocolate, berry compote and yogurt. This spot would be ideal if you fancy a mooch down on the beach afterwards!

Signals, Saltburn
Another amazing pancake place by the sea is Signals. They’re right next to the train station too, so they’re in a great spot if you’ve travelled in to the seaside town! You have to give their bacon, maple syrup and blueberries pancakes a try – it’s the perfect blend of sweet and salty. This super trendy spot also produces its own coffee and it would be rude not to have a cup alongside your pancakes, wouldn’t it?

MJ’s Cake Cafe, Darlington
Another lush hidden gem is MJ’s Cake Cafe out in Middleton St. George. This is a newly opened spot by Shalona, who has 13 years of pastry chef experience, so you know it’s gonna be good! And not only are her cakes divine, her pancakes are too. She likes to stick to the classics, so you can expect lots of berries and syrups, but she’s also developing pancake spaghetti… keep your eyes on social media for that!
