Looking for something towards the end of June 2025 in the North East? I’ve got you covered with this list. As part of my feature on BBC Tees and Newcastle, I select my top picks of things happening across the North East, and here’s what I’ve chosen for Thursday 19th June to Saturday 28th June.
Blyth Live – Blyth Seafront – Sat 21st June
We’re starting on Blyth Seafront for the return of the Blyth Live music festival on Saturday 21st, and it’s promising even more excitement and entertainment for the whole family. This is a totally free event with so much to see, but it all centres around a line up of live music starting from 12pm and rounding out the iconic headliners, Bay City Rollers. For thrill seekers, there’ll be a range of fairground rides for all ages in the Mermaid Car Park alongside a range of local food and craft traders. Keep your eyes peeled as well for dance performances and shanty singers. I think it would be lovely to pack a bit of a picnic and make a day of it, and there’s no ticket needed, so just rock up to Blyth Seafront on Saturday and enjoy.
Beer Festival & Classic Vehicle Show – Aln Valley Railway – Sat 21st and Sun 22nd June
Aln Valley Railway are packing two events into one weekend and it’s going to be brilliant. So across Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd, the railway are hosting a beer festival in the engine shed with a whole host of the finest brews from local favourites, like Metalhead Brewery in Bedlington and The First & Last Brewery in Bellingham. But there’s also going to be a classic vehicle show too with more than 50 different cars confirmed for each day. So if you’re a beer person or a fan of a vintage car, this could be right up your street, and the best bit is that it’s free entry. If beer and cars aren’t your thing, there’s also steam train rides, which you can book tickets for on the Aln Valley Railway website, as well as a tea room and outdoor play area. It’s going to be a great weekend, so you can find more info online, but otherwise, just head along to Lionheart Station on Saturday or Sunday to join in.
Feast By The Sea – outside Spanish City, Whitley Bay – Sat 21st and Sun 22nd June
Feast by the Sea is back in Whitley Bay and this is always a hugely popular event for very good reason. You’ll find this food and drink festival outside Spanish City across Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd with a whole host of deliciousness to enjoy. There’ll be over 20 street food stalls to try, a variety of local artisan producers and three bars. And that’s just the food and drink side of things, there’s also a packed live music line up for the whole weekend and a kids area, so this is something that the whole family will love. This is another one that’s free to go to and you don’t need a ticket, so just visit Whitley Bay this weekend or visit the Feast by the Sea website to get more details.
Open Weekend & Vintage Motorbike Gala – Tees Cottage Pumping Station, Darlington – Sat 21st and Sun 22nd June
This one is a bit of a mixed bag, but I recommend it if you like a bit of a history. It’s Tees Cottage Pumping Station’s open weekend on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd, and I went along to this last month, and it was fab. This Victorian pumping station in Darlington is open on select dates throughout the year where they fire up the engines for people to see the station in motion as it would’ve been in the past. You can explore the buildings to see the pumps, gas engine, boilers, blacksmith and so much more, but this weekend is an extra special one because they’re also hosting a classic motorbike gala on the Sunday as well, so you can get up close to some vintage bikes, as well as enjoy rides on the miniature railway, browse local traders and grab a bite to eat in the Cottage Cafe. The Last Laugh – Newcastle Theatre Royal – Tues 24th to Sat 28th June
Direct from the West End, The Last Laugh is a brand new laugh-a-minute play which reimagines the lives of three of Britain’s all-time greatest comedy heroes – Tommy Cooper, Eric Morecambe and Bob Monkhouse. This is an amazing way to take a look back at these comedy giants of the past as they chat and banter on stage with all of the personality and wit that they were known for. It’s filled with great gags and touching stories, making it nostalgic, poignant and the ultimate evening out for fans of classic comedy. It’s on at the Newcastle Theatre Royal from Tuesday 24th to Saturday 28th, and if it sounds like your kind of thing, you can head to the Theatre Royal website to book your tickets.
The Music of Coldplay By Candlelight – Middlesbrough Town Hall – Fri 27th June
If there’s one thing we love in the North East it’s a candlelight, and we just can’t seem to get enough of them all year round, but this one is all about Coldplay in the gorgeous Middlesbrough Town Hall. Featuring a spectacular cast of world class vocalists and an epic live band, prepare for total ‘Paradise’, as you experience Coldplay’s biggest hits like never before! Just imagine hearing songs like including Clocks, Fix You and The Scientist, all in glow of candlelight – it’s going to be incredibly magical. It’s a definite must for fans of the band, so if you want to go along, it’s on next Friday 27th and you can pick up your tickets from the Middlesbrough Town Hall website.
Glastonbeery: Ale & Music Festival – The Georgian Theatre, Stockton – Fri 27th and Sat 28th June
We’re rounding out this list with live music and beer at The Georgian Theatre. If you’re feeling a bit of fomo because you didn’t get Glastonbury tickets, this venue are doing Glastonbeery on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th. They’re teaming up with local brewers, Three Brothers Brewery, to bring you over 20 cask and keg beers, as well as lagers, ciders, wines, Prosecco and spirits, so there’ll be drinks for all. And of course, there’ll be live music on both days and coverage of Glasto will be shown on the big screen, so you won’t miss out on your favourites. There are different sessions throughout the weekend, and dogs and kids are welcome for the day sessions. This is a ticketed event, so take a look at The Georgian Theatre’s website to find more info or book your spaces.
