Events to look out for
Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF) – Fri 1st to Sun 3rd – the North East’s biggest FREE to enjoy outdoor arts and street theatre festival will once again be filling the streets of Stockton with music, circus, dance and more. A jam-packed programme from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd August that is certainly not to be missed.
Family Foam Party on Hartlepool Headland – Thurs 7th – get ready to soak up the fun! Kids of all ages can dive into the foam and dance their hearts out at one of two free sessions – 4pm or 6pm. Expect pumping music, mountains of foam, and non-stop giggles!
Saltburn Folk Festival – Fri 8th to Sun 10th – Saltburn Folk Festival is a friendly, multivenue festival, set in a historic seaside town on the stunning North Yorkshire coast. They champion creativity, tradition and opportunity across the folk arts, from nationally acclaimed musicians, to dance and storytelling, and lots in between!
Darlington Pride – Sat 9th – don’t miss this colourful and empowering event for all! Enjoy live music, tribute acts, fun activities and informative resources, all in a welcoming atmosphere.
Sedgefield Show – Sat 9th – the show has an interesting range of competitive classes which represent the many skills and aspects of life in the local community, and in the countryside. Animals, machinery and husbandry are exhibited, as are produce, handicrafts and artistic items entered by people of all ages from the local schoolchildren onwards.
Billingham International Folklore Festival’s 60th Anniversary – Sat 9th to Sun 17th – Billingham International Folklore Festival (BIFF) is dedicated to bringing you the very best of traditional and contemporary dance from across the world. Their family programme offers creative experiences for people of all ages and abilities to try new things and to engage in dance and music workshops and community events.
Pride Picnic at Hopetown Darlington – Sun 10th – Hopetown’s luscious outdoor spaces are the perfect location for a relaxed, family-friendly Pride picnic with crafts, face painting, live music by Tracks Darlington, bubbles and storytelling.
Chess by the Tees next to SanSeb – Sun 10th – the space opposite the SanSeb will be turned into a space where 10-15 games of chess (possibly more) can take place at any one time and it’ll be open to all ages and abilities. Whether you are keen to start your chess journey or already a chess master, then this is the place for you.
Middlesbrough Mela – Sat 16th and Sun 17th – experience the vibrant tapestry of cultures at the Middlesbrough Mela, an annual celebration that brings together diverse communities through a colorful array of music, dance, art, and cuisine, fostering unity and understanding in a joyous atmosphere of shared traditions and experiences.
Darlington Fairy Tales & Legends Day – Thurs 21st – become immersed in a world of knights and fairies with this wonderfully whimsical event! Get your children dressed up in their best fairytale outfits and come along for a day of colouring activities, face paintings, games, live performances, character meet-and-greets and more.
Roller Discos at Stockton Globe – Thurs 21st to Sat 23rd – there are three different roller discos on at the Stockton Globe this summer, including family-friendly sessions, over 18s nights and date night sessions.
HydraCon Book Festival at Stockton ARC – Sat 23rd – calling all book lovers! This is your chance to meet authors, discover new books, take part in free workshops or attend talks by experts in the literary world. Join together with The Book Dragon and the local community to celebrate all things books at this engaging event that’s fun for all the family.
Between The Tides Festival – Sat 23rd and Sun 24th – Between The Tides is Redcar’s free outdoor festival for children, young people and their families. Featuring an exciting programme of street theatre, puppetry, circus, dance, storytelling, music and more, this is a stellar weekend in the Teesside events calendar.
Wild Night Out at RSPB Saltholme – Sun 24th – get ready for an unforgettable evening of wild discovery as Saltholme stays open after hours for a magical family adventure! Enjoy pond dipping, mini beast hunting, twilight walks and more, then gather around the campfire for marshmallows!
Dinosaur Day in Darlington town centre – Thurs 28th – step back in time and come face-to-face with the giants of the prehistoric world with Wild West Dino Discovery. Touch real fossils, snap epic selfies with a T-Rex, and uncover the secrets of the Mesozoic era! Perfect for families, dino enthusiasts, and anyone ready for an adventure.
The Rhythms Project Festival in Skelton – Sat 30th – get ready for a massive celebration of Teesside’s underground music scene! 40 of the region’s best DJs will take over four arenas, bringing non-stop energy and showcasing the raw talent that makes our scene special. Expect a mix of house, techno, drum & bass, garage, and more, all in a high-energy, inclusive atmosphere.
Thornaby Show – Sun 31st – Thornaby will host its annual show with a fun-filled weekend for all the family complete with a horticulture show tent.

Eaglescliffe Beer Festival – Fri 22nd to Sun 24th – the Three Brothers team can’t wait to be back over the August Bank Holiday weekend for Eaglescliffe Beer Festival at Egglescliffe Community Centre! Join us for an incredible selection of cask and keg beers, lagers, ciders, artisan spirits, wine, prosecco, and soft drinks. Each day will feature a street food vendor, live music every night, and our charity pub quiz on Sunday!
Rosé Festival at Fourteen Drops Market Hall – Sat 23rd and Sun 24th – sip, savour, and celebrate at the Fourteen Drops ‘Drink Pink’ Rosé Festival – a whole weekend of rosé appreciation with a hearty serving of oysters, charcuterie cones and artisan toasties. This boutique event brings together 40 hand-picked rosé wines from around the globe for you to taste paired with a curated selection of gourmet food including oysters, for one unforgettable weekend of laid-back luxury.
Darlington British Produce Festival – Sat 23rd and Sun 24th – a festival to celebrate local producers with great food and live music.
Cannoli Making and Prosecco at The Deli House Darlington – Tues 26th – join Veronika at this cannoli demonstration class at the beautiful Deli House at 39 Blackwellgate, Darlington. You will learn how to make fresh ricotta filling for delicious Sicilian cannoli while you are enjoying a glass or two of Prosecco. Then you will make a full a box of ricotta cannoli to take at home!

Curious Takeover at Darlington Hippodrome and The Hullabaloo – Sat 2nd – join Curious Arts for a day of fun-packed, free creative activities for all the family, including colourful arts and crafts, storytimes, workshops, lip-sync battles, face painting, dress-up station and more!
Alice In Wonderland at The Princess Alexandra Auditorium Yarm – Sun 3rd – follow Alice as she meets some of the most extraordinary characters ever imagined, from the fierce Queen of Hearts to the hilarious Mad Hatter and the ever-grinning Cheshire Cat. With plenty of comedy, excitement, and heart, this production will keep the whole family entertained from start to finish.
Club Groovy: Funky Family Fest at Stockton ARC – Sat 9th – it’s time to shine in Club Groovy’s mini music festival party. Get your glitter on and join the team in a show that promises to be jam-packed full of feel-good anthems, colour and celebration!
Over 30s Indie Disco at NE Volume Music Bar – Sat 16th – a free entry indie disco for over 30s! Get your dancing shoes on for this afternoon of great music and be home in time for tea.
Family Music Day at Middlesbrough Town Hall – Mon 18th – Fancy getting musical this August? Get stuck in with a range of workshops for all the family! Drop-in to any workshop you like, then get involved with the participatory concert with lots of singing and dancing to close the day.
Susie Dent: Word Perfect at Darlington Hippodrome – Wed 20th – following on from her hit show ‘The Secret Life of Words’, Susie Dent is back with a brand-new collection of facts and stories from the wonderful world of words. Have you ever wondered whether there’s a word for going to the fridge for the umpteenth time in search of something new? Or puzzled over the reason why a group of crows is called a ‘murder’, while owls form a ‘parliament’?
Strange Phenomena at The Georgian Theatre – Wed 20th – Strange Phenomena is the ultimate tribute to the visionary music of Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel. A powerful and theatrical live show that captures the spirit, emotion, and artistry of two musical icons. Featuring a full live band and captivating vocal performances, Strange Phenomena brings their most beloved songs to life with passion, precision, and dramatic flair.
Touchdown Festival at Darlington Arena – Sat 23rd – indie rock legends Razorlight will headline a stellar bill featuring special guests Ocean Colour Scene, Jake Bugg, and White Lies, alongside performances from rising stars Tom A. Smith, Cammy Barnes, Pastel, and Matt-Felix—all on one stage for an unforgettable all-day event!
Nevermore Festival at NE Volume Music Bar – Sun 24th – Nevermore Festival returns for round two this August! Organised by North East musician Jamie Sample (of Brass Eyed Dragons), the event aims to raise funds in aid of the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.
Bill Bailey: Thoughtifier at Stockton Globe – Tues 26th – at a point in our evolution when it seems as if we’re sleepwalking into a world where humans might be redundant, and much of what we do can be done better and more efficiently by machines, what better time to celebrate our own flawed humanity. And who better a guide to lead us than Bill…
At the museum
Colourscape at Captain Cook Birthplace Museum – Tues 5th and Wed 6th – immerse yourself in a unique and mesmerising experience that blends light, colour and music. Explore a mesmerising labyrinth of colour and space. Wander through beautiful tunnels of radiant colour and discover musicians and dancers in a unique journey of the senses.
Create an Insect Workshop at Dorman Museum – Fri 8th – using paper, scissors and a dollop of imagination, help to fill a Cardboard Pop-Up Museum with insects before it tours Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland this Autumn. Whether it’s a giant glitter butterfly or a peaceful paper moth, these creations will all become part of the exhibition.
Skinningrove Heritage Walks with Land Of Iron – Fri 8th and 22nd – head on a stroll through the quiet village of Skinningrove; learn about its history, its importance to industry and other local communities, and find out how it developed from a small fishing village to the beating heart of the Industrial Revolution in the North East.
Animal Story Encounters at Hopetown Darlington – Wed 13th and Thurs 28th – Animal Story offers exceptional exotic animal workshops, with gentle handling by trained professionals and exciting displays for everyone to see. These hour-long sessions encourage an interest in wildlife and the natural world around us.
Beach Art Workshops with Land Of Iron – Thurs 14th and 28th – take part in games, challenges and creative activities to learn about flooding, climate change and how we can all stay safe. It’s teamwork, problem-solving and big ideas made simple, and loads of fun too! Then you’ll head down to the beach creating STEM-based artwork using stones, shells, seaweed and more that you can find on the beach!
Dino Day at Dorman Museum – Fri 15th – join Dorman Museum’s team of intrepid Jurassic explorers and take part in some roar-some dinosaur activities! Meet Pete the T-Rex and the baby dinosaurs, take part in our Jurras-tic family craft and handle real dinosaur fossils along the way.
Viking Day at Land Of Iron – Sat 23rd – step into the world of Viking Skinningrove with a full day of hands-on fun for all the family! Join the Land of Iron army for exciting activities and workshops that explore the history, skills and stories of our local Viking past. See history in action with live demonstrations of Viking weapons and armour, and even have a go yourself! Get crafty with your very own handheld loom and learn how the Vikings used to weave, and so much more.
Pioneer Discovery Days at NMRN Hartlepool – Thurs 28th and Fri 29th – from building and racing mini ships, decoding maritime signals and experimenting with early navigation tools, every activity is designed to spark curiosity and encourage participants to think like true pioneers. Creative zones will inspire young minds to design their own naval inventions, while storytelling sessions and live re-enactments will immerse guests in key moments of naval innovation.
Craft workshops
Viva Talbot Printmaking Workshop at Land of Iron – Tues 5th – create your own incredible print, inspired by industrial history. Join Land of Iron for a hands-on creative workshop where you’ll design and print your own image using modern materials, taking inspiration from the remarkable woodblock work of Viva Talbot.
Eco Resin Workshop with Palette & Pop – Thurs 7th – wanna try something a little different? Come and pour your creativity into something fun! At this chilled craft night, you’ll make a cute little jewellery dish and TWO fab candle holders. And yes – you get to take them home the same night!
Disco Ball Paint-a-long at Creative Village CIC – Thurs 7th – join Creative Village to paint-a-long creating your own disco ball canvas, perfect for your home or a gift for a friend. This workshop is super relaxed with hot drinks, biscuits and chat.
Make a Trio of Textured Silver Rings at The Little Silver Kiln – Sat 9th – get ready to unleash your inner creativity and make a stunning set of textured rings with the exciting ‘Trio of Rings’ class! Not only will you learn a new skill, but you’ll also leave with some beautiful jewellery that you can wear with pride.
Outdoor Mosaic Workshop at From Loft To Loved – Sat 9th – join From Loft To Loved to make a beautiful garden stake, slate, decorated stone, door number or outdoor hanging. During the 4 hour session, Ann will be on hand to provide support and guidance whilst you create your own unique mosaic. You will learn and practice cutting and mosaicing techniques using a wide range of outdoor materials to create your own design using your choice of shapes and tiles.
Books and libraries
Pin Drop Club at Koselig Guisborough (every Mon) and Pin Drop Club at Koselig Saltburn (every Thurs) – a silent book club where you can read what you like and enjoy a baked treat, hot drink, and peace and quiet.
The Ink Society Creative Writing Group at Darlington Library – Sat 2nd – in these monthly sessions, members will develop their writing by examining the techniques authors use to create bestselling books, receive writing tips, and have workshopping time to engage in writing activities. All levels of experience are welcome!
The Otherworldly Book Club: Adult Only (18+) Monthly Speculative Fiction Book Group at DRAKE The Bookshop – Tues 26th – the book for this month is Rewitched by Lucy Jane Wood.
The Open Book Club at PLAY (Tues 26th) and The Open Book Club at Signals (Wed 27th) – a book club for like-minded girls to get together, make new friends and connect over books.
My Boro, My Shirt at Stockton Library – until Sat 30th – My Boro, My Shirt tells the diverse stories of the club’s fans on Teesside and further afield and highlights how supporters make football a welcoming place for everyone, regardless of background. Fifteen fan portraits were taken by photographers Tom Banks and Paul Thompson – with supporters sharing what their shirt, and the club, means to them.
Ideas for national days
International Beer Day on Fri 1st – try out a local beer! Brands include Three Brothers Brewing Company, Talking Tides and Guisborough Brewery.
National Book Lovers Day on Sat 9th – visit a local bookshop, like DRAKE The Bookshop, Book Corner Saltburn, Back of Beyond Bookshop in Sedgefield or The Book Dragon in Stockton.
National Bowling Day on Sat 9th – hit a strike at Hollywood Bowl, Larry’s Lanes or Pinnacle.
National Relaxation Day on Sun 15th – book a spa day at Rockliffe Hall.
National Beach Day on Sat 30th – visit one of the beautiful Tees Valley beaches, like Saltburn, Redcar, Marske or Skinningrove.
