Half Term at Ushaw House – Sat 25th Oct to Sat 1st Nov
Ushaw House is bursting with family fun this half term from Saturday 25th October to Saturday 1st November. Follow the Lovely Leaves Trail through vibrant autumn gardens or try the Digital Interactive Trail to uncover Ushaw’s rich history. Little ones can get crafty with Leafy Lanterns and Autumnal Animals sessions (check dates!), plus free crafts on 28th October. Don’t miss the magical All Hallows’ Eve Illuminated Trail from 30th October to 1st November, an enchanting evening walk full of light and mystery. With no booking needed for most activities, it’s an easy autumn day out for the whole family, and most are included with Ushaw House day admission or annual membership.
Half Term at Newcastle Castle – Sat 25th Oct to Sun 2nd Nov
Dare you explore the dark corners of Newcastle’s most haunted landmark? This half term, Newcastle Castle invites brave adventurers for a spine-tingling journey back in time. From 25th October to 2nd November, expect eerie storytelling, creepy crafts and ghost-hunting fun. Kids can enjoy potion making and a drawing competition, and the gory tours will have people of all ages gripped. It’s the perfect mix of education, excitement and just the right amount of fright for a Halloweeny half term. These activities are free, but spaces need to be booked via the Newcastle Castle website.
Half Term at National Trust Sites – Sat 25th Oct to Sun 2nd Nov
Autumn is showing off, and National Trust sites across the North East are ready to welcome families for an October half term of leaf-kicking, den-building and marshmallow-toasting joy. From the wild woods of Gibside to the sweeping coast at Souter Lighthouse, there are trails to follow, pumpkins to find and nature to marvel at. Each location has its own seasonal twist – think spooky scavenger hunts, storytelling and wildlife spotting. Pop on your wellies, grab a hot chocolate and head outdoors for fresh air and family fun. Most activities are included with National Trust admission, so head to the website and look at the North East sites to see what’s on.
Halloween Evenings – Beamish Museum – Mon 27th, Wed 29th and Fri 31st Oct
Beamish Museum gets a ghostly makeover for three hauntingly good Halloween evenings! On 27th, 29th and 31st October, the living museum turns into a spook-filled spectacle, complete with creepy characters, eerie entertainment and a lantern-lit walk through time. From Victorian phantoms to 1950s mischief, each corner hides a new fright (or delight). It’s spooky but family-friendly, with costumes encouraged and treats along the way. Beamish does Halloween with nostalgic charm and a dash of devilish fun! These events cost extra on top of your annual admission, so take a look at the Beamish Museum website to book.
Here & Now – Newcastle Theatre Royal – Tues 28th Oct to Sun 2nd Nov
Get ready for a sparkling night out with Here & Now, the hilariously heart‑warming new musical based on the songs of Steps, playing from Tuesday 28th October to Sunday 2nd November at the Newcastle Theatre Royal. Set in a seaside superstore where love, friendship and betrayal collide, the show features hit tunes like “5, 6, 7, 8”, “Better Best Forgotten” and “Last Thing on My Mind.” Directed by award‑winner Rachel Kavanaugh and written by Shaun Kitchener, this tour is produced by the original Steps members and features an all‑star cast. Whitby Goth Weekend – Thurs 30th Oct to Sun 2nd Nov
Whitby turns wonderfully weird as the legendary Goth Weekend returns from Thursday 30th October to Sunday 2nd November. Expect Victorian vampires, steampunk swagger and more dramatic eyeliner than a theatre dressing room. This iconic event celebrates all things gothic with live music, markets, costume parades and haunting backdrops provided by the stunning Abbey ruins. Whether you’re dressed head-to-toe in velvet or just there for the people-watching, it’s a unique, welcoming and seriously stylish weekend by the sea. This is free to go along to!
Pyromusical 2025 – Kynren site – Sat 1st Nov
Wrap up warm and prepare to be wowed because Pyromusical 2025 lights up the Kynren site in Bishop Auckland on Saturday 1st November with an explosive fusion of fireworks and music. This isn’t just a bonfire night, it’s a fully choreographed spectacle where rockets dance in time to epic tunes. It’s perfect for families, friends, and anyone who loves a dramatic sky show. Last minute pumpkin picking – Brocksbushes, East Grange Farm, Baydale, Hall Hill and Pontac
Still haven’t picked your perfect pumpkin? Don’t panic, there’s still time! No matter where you are in the North East, the fields are brimming with brilliant orange beauties just waiting to be picked. Head to Brocksbushes for tractor rides and tasty treats, or enjoy twilight picks at East Grange Farm. Baydale Farm and Pontac Pumpkins have lovely local vibes, and Hall Hill adds animal antics. Book your places now and visit before Halloween rolls around!
