We’re so lucky in Teesside to have such a rich music scene. From incredible bands and artists, to top venues that host performers of all sizes, and from amazing promoters, to legions of local music fans, we have it all. The area is also home to a whole host of festivals and music events (with new ones popping up all of the time), and one of the biggest is Stockton Calling 2022!
After taking a break since 2019 until the c-word-that-will-not-be-named blew over, the festival is back and better than over. The fabulous organisers have pulled out all the stops to bring Stockton Calling to the town with a triumphant bang, and I for one absolutely can’t wait. But if you’re new to all things Stockton Calling, here’s all the info you need to know.
What is Stockton Calling 2022?
Stockton Calling is a daylong music festival which takes place across an array of venues within Stockton town centre. It’s all about showcasing some of the best original, emerging music – both home grown and from further afield – alongside some established favourites and legends. And for 2022, you can expect a line up of over 80 acts across 11 stages, so there truly is something for everyone. The team have worked their socks off to make this festival as diverse and exciting as possible for the thousands of music lovers that’ll be attending.
When is Stockton Calling 2022?
Stockton Calling 2022 will be hitting the town’s venues on Saturday 16th April. The event will be held across the whole day, but it’s the perfect excuse to make a weekend of it and explore the rest of Teesside.
Who is on the festival line up?
The Stockton Calling 2022 headliners including indie legends, The Pigeon Detectives, down-to-Earth Doncaster rockers, The Reytons, and experimental pop solo star, Self Esteem. These are alongside a wealth of local music talents, like Dylan Cartlidge, Komparrison, Mt Misery, Joe Ramsey, Shakk, Samantha Durnan, and Michael Gallagher, to name just a few! And if that wasn’t enough, you can also check out some brilliant emerging artists from across the UK too, such as The Let Go, Courting, Frankie Beetlestone, English Teacher, Venus Grrrls, and Coco and the Lost, and oodles more.
As there’s so many amazing artists spread out across a range of venues, my biggest tip is to keep your eyes on the Stockton Calling social media for timings. Stockton town centre is home to lots of fantastic venues and many of them are hosting artists for Stockton Calling 2022. And what’s even better is that they’re all within walking distance of each other, so there’ll be no need for taxi-ing about. The venues involved are:

Where can I eat and drink?
Not only are we super lucky to have a wealth of music and arts venues across the town, but there’s plenty of spots to eat and drink too. I’ve put together a little Google map that you can see above the last question, so feel free to browse and get booked in. But for me, there are a few stand out spots.
The Storytellers is a fab spot for both food and drink, and it would be worth checking with them if they’re serving while the festival is on. I may be a bit biased, but The Golden Smog is a lush little pub and they’ll give you a free pint if you’re wearing one of my Smoggie pins. The Tap and Stone do gorgeous New York-style pizzas and cocktails, whereas Finkle & Green is good if you’re looking for somewhere for small plates or beaut parmos. Hope & Union is also right in the thick of the action and is a family fave, so definitely one to try!
Jimmy Beck of KU Promotions, one of the festival’s organisers, said: “We cannot wait to welcome everyone in a few months time to Stockton Calling! We are elated to say that after we had to abandon 2020 and all the hard work we have put into trying to reschedule over the last two years, the whole team have worked their socks off to make 2022 the biggest and best yet and that’s exactly what you’re getting.”
