Products I've Recently Used Up - Empties #1*

4 Jun 2019

I did a poll on Twitter not too long ago to find out if people still read empties posts and as you might have guessed, the answer was no. That being said, I'm a nosey thing and I love knowing what people actually use, and I've been holding on to all of my empty lotions and potions for the past month or so, so I'm gonna go ahead and just do an empties post! Plus, I've been so good with saving my money lately (shock horror, I haven't bought an unnecessary makeup product in over a month!) and doing an empties post will remind me that I need to keep using my current stash!

So, after that really long and kind of unwanted justification spiel, let's just jump right in! Like I said, all of these empties have gathered up over the past month and a bit, so I've got a good mix of skincare, haircare and makeup. If you've ever felt nosey about the products that people use in their day-to-day life, then keep on reading!

Tarte's Maneater mascara

I picked up this mascara on a bit of a whim when I saw that Tarte was doing a custom kit sale back in November. I waited until I'd used up my beloved Too Faced's Better Than Sex to give it a go, and I wasn't disappointed! It actually almost rivalled the Better Than Sex because it gave me everything that I could want in a mascara - length, volume and jet black drama.

Will I repurchase?
I probably will at some point. Right now, I'm trying to save money, so I'm using one of my favourite drugstore brand mascaras instead.

Soap & Glory's Thick and Fast mascara

As I wear very minimal makeup to work (just brows and mascara), I seem to be going through mascaras at a lightning pace. I've loved Thick and Fast for years - it does a brilliant job of adding volume and doesn't break the bank. It definitely doesn't give me the same results as the mascaras mentioned above, but for day-to-day use, it's fab!

Will I repurchase?
Yes, and I have! I'm currently using Soap & Glory's Thick and Fast Flash-Extensions Effect mascara.

Benefit's Gimme Brow

I think the most defining feature on my face is my eyebrows, so getting them right whilst keeping them looking natural is essential for me. The Benefit Gimme Brow does exactly that! I won this baby from Ellis Tuesday as part of a set, and I instantly fell in love. I would use a little bit of pencil to fill in the sparse areas, then go over top with the Gimme Brow to fluff them up a little and set them in place. The amount of compliments I've had on my brows since using this product is amazing, so I highly recommend!

Will I repurchase?
It may be something that I'd treat myself to once in a while because for a brow gel, it's kind of expensive.

Neogen Shampoo and Conditioner*

I was lucky enough to be sent three month's worth of shampoo and conditioner from Neogen in April, and they instantly became a staple in my shower routine. You can read all about my first impressions and I'll be doing a hair update post, but just know that these two products have given my hair so much more life. It feels so much more healthy and full!

Will I repurchase?
100% yes!

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Divine Dark

Ahh, Batiste - every girl's best friend. I absolutely love this stuff and I've got to a point where I don't know what I'd do without it. Before using the Neogen shampoo and conditioner*, I would get a very oily scalp, but this has been reduced now and I can get to third day hair before it needs a little help. Now, I'd love to be able to use the nicely fragranced Batiste dry shampoos, but they leave a bit of a grey cast on my hair, so the Divine Dark has to do.

Will I repurchase?
Yep and I already have.

Original Source shower gel in Juicy Mango

I'm not a shower gel snob and I'll use anything that smells good. Original Source is vegan, contains natural fruit oils and comes in a recyclable bottle - plus, the basic fragrances are usually about £1 per bottle. Mango isn't something that I'd usually pick, so I must've been feeling really tropical when I purchased this, but it was a lovely shower gel that added a sweet scent to my shower routine.

Will I repurchase?
Possibly not the mango scent as there are so many other Original Source scents I haven't tried, but I'd definitely buy from this shower gel brand again.

The Body Shop's Tea Tree Foaming Cleanser

I have been obsessed with this cleanser for as long as I can remember. A little went a long way, it was kind to my skin, it took all my makeup off (even stubborn eye makeup, but don't ever get it in your eye because ouch) - the list just goes on. However, this stuff isn't available to buy in stores any more, or so it seems. It's still on the website, but I don't really want to pay for shipping if I can walk to my local shop and buy it, you feel me? It really is brilliant stuff though, so I hope it gets brought back.

Will I repurchase?
If it's brought back into stores, absolutely.

The Body Shop's Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter

I'd read rave reviews of this product on The Body Shop's website, so I picked it up ages ago to try it out. I'll be honest, I was underwhelmed. Sure, it was gentle on my skin, but if I had makeup on, I would always have to double cleanse. Plus, because it's oil-based, I don't think it was doing wonders for my already oily complexion.

Will I repurchase?
No, there are cleansers available that work much better.

Dove Go Fresh in pear and aloe vera

If you didn't feel like you knew me enough from the makeup I wear and the stuff I use in the shower, you now know what my armpits smell like... lovely. This deodorant is my go to and it's been my holy grail for as long as I can remember, especially the pear and aloe vera scent. It's usually on offer and doesn't break the bank, and does a pretty good job of keeping any sweat smells at bay.

Will I repurchase?
I have repurchased in a new scent, but going forward, I'll be using the roll-on version to be a little more eco-friendly.

Even though no one reads empties posts anymore, I thoroughly enjoyed writing this! It's so good to go back over everything you've used up and really consider whether it's a total necessity to your life or routine. I'm not sure how regular this sort of post will be, but I definitely want to do more in the future, so if you're like me and love a good nosey, keep your eyes peeled!
