What is Whinstone View?
Before I get into the juicy stuff, let’s talk about what exactly Whinstone View is. It’s a 14 site with eight luxury Scandinavian log cabins, a bistro with indoor and outdoor dining, a small but perfectly formed spa and a purpose built, rustic wedding and events barn. The whole spot gives incredibly relaxing and indulgent vibes without being pretentious or feeling out of reach. Whether you choose to stay over or simply pop by for a bite to eat, you’re guaranteed to feel well looked after and totally able to unwind.
Where is Whinstone View?
You’ll find Whinstone View at B1292, Middlesbrough, TS9 6QG. It’s just outside of Great Ayton and not too far from Roseberry Topping, making it a great base if you fancy a walk up the iconic hill. The location also makes it perfect for exploring the surrounding towns and villages, including Stokesley and Guisborough.

The log cabins
There are eight log cabins at Whinstone View, each with their very own hot tub. The three smaller cabins (Zoffany, Bazare and Roma) are incredibly spacious and offer a king size bed, luxury bathroom, flat screen TV, mini fridge, fluffy robs and flip flops, and deck chairs. The next largest cabins (Flurie and Kuki) sleep up to four people with two separate bedrooms, and come complete with a living area, a self-catering kitchen, and an outdoor table and chair set for al fresco dining. The final cabins are much larger, with Embla and Blue sleeping up to six people, Frida sleeping between eight to ten, making them perfect for family trips or bridal parties staying the night before a wedding.
We stayed in Zoffany on our trip and were so impressed by the size. Considering this was one of the smaller cabins, it was so roomy! Not only was there the king size bed in the main room, there was a stunning orange sofa, coffee table, little table with two stools, a side table with coffee and tea facilities, a wardrobe, and mini fridge area. And even with all of that, there was still so much space to move around. It never once felt cramped! The same can be said for the bathroom, which was surprisingly big with a really spacious walk-in shower.

For me, one of the main draws of the Whinstone View log cabins is the hot tubs. When I want to go glamping, I’m always on the lookout for places with hot tubs and I love that each log cabin here has its own. All the instructions you need to use the hot tubs are in the welcome guide in the cabin and on the wall by the tub, but I promise you, we found ours so simple to use. We loved climbing in on the evening when the light was dying and getting fully relaxed. We also had a quick dip in the morning just before checking out, which was an amazing way to start the day!
Given Whinstone View’s location, the log cabins are nestled in surrounding countryside, but with the rest of the site and nearby towns, you don’t feel as though you’re in the middle of nowhere. But because of the countryside, the soundtrack of your stay will be birdsong, which I found absolutely lovely. Walking to the bistro for dinner, sitting in the hot tub and waking up in the morning all featured the birds tweeting. It was honestly blissful.
I’m usually not great at sleeping when I’m away from home, but I slept so so well at Whinstone View. I think the combination of the super comfy bed, good food from the bistro (which I’ll talk about in a sec) and the relaxing in the hot tub made me feel so content that I was able to drift off quickly. I found the whole stay so cosy and enjoyable, and I was sad to leave. If you’re looking for a local staycation or glamping with hot tubs, get Whinstone View on your list.
If you want to make your stay even more indulgent, you can book a treatment at the on-site spa. We didn’t visit it this time, but all guests can get 10% off their treatments, as stated in the welcome guide. That includes massages, facials, skin peels, manicures and more.

Dining in the bistro
The Whinstone View bistro is modern and airy, and offers a fantastic assortment of dishes. It’s a welcoming and warm spot, whether you’re having dinner during your stay or you’ve popped in for lunch. I was impressed by how attentive and friendly the staff were, and how great the atmosphere was.
During our stay, we got to sample the new Springfest menu (ends May 2024), which featured some hearty classics, like bangers and mash, plus veggie and vegan options, like the falafel burger. It was a fabulously varied menu with something for everyone! Two courses were priced at £18 and three for £22, which is reasonable for the lovely quality.
We opted for a main and dessert, so I started with the fish and chips. The haddock was a great size for me – not absolutely gigantic, but still a decent size – and laid on a bed of hand cut chips with a side of mushy peas and tartare sauce. The fish had the most delicious, crispy batter and the chips were sensational. It was a gorgeous way to start the meal!
Matthew couldn’t resist the parmo – we were in Teesside after all – and he definitely wasn’t disappointed. The breadcrumbed chicken with bechamel sauce and cheese also came with a side of hand cut chips, house salad and garlic mayo. We’ve got some criteria on what makes a good parmo and the Whinstone View offering ticks a lot of boxes! it had the perfect thickness, the bech to cheese ratio was really good, the bech was lovely and smooth, and it came with garlic mayo, rather than having to pay for it separately. If you’re a parmo fan, this is one to go check out, for sure!

The dessert menu was made up of familiar favourites, like chocolate brownie or sticky toffee pudding, the latter of which Matthew went for. He loves trying a sticky toffee wherever we go and he was head over heels for this one. The pudding itself was so moist and moreish, while the extra puddle of toffee sauce really sealed the deal. It was so rich, but was balanced nicely with the light vanilla ice cream. I chose the cheesecake of the day, which was rhubarb, and WOW. The cheesecake itself was very lightly flavoured, but the stewed rhubarb and the rhubarb gel really packed a punch. It was beautiful!
If you’d like to try the Whinstone View Springfest menu, make sure you book in before the end of April 2024. You can enjoy it as part of a stay or you can book in for dinner.
Did you know Whinstone View also sell stonebaked pizzas from their terrace? These can be enjoyed outside, in the bistro or in your log cabin. We tried a couple for lunch and they were brilliant. I highly recommend the pepperoni!

Breakfast at Whinstone View
Breakfast is an important part of a stay and I’m pleased to say that Whinstone View’s surpasses the mark. Gone are the days of having to be up at the crack of dawn to get to breakfast in time. Whinstone View’s breakfast is open 9am-11am, giving you time to have a dip in the hot tub beforehand.
You can enjoy breakfast in the bistro or if you’re enjoying the cabin, you can actually order it to your door, which is what we did. The log cabins all have a breakfast menu in the welcome guide, so all you need to do is decide what you’d like, then call the bistro at 9am. You give them your order, they make it up and bring it to your log cabin. I think it’s a brilliant service that really sets Whinstone view apart!
I went for the maple and bacon pancakes, which were gigantic. They were proper American pancakes that were fluffy and chunky with lashings of maple syrup and crispy bacon. It was a great way to start the day! Matthew went for the Yorkshire breakfast, which came with all the Full English trimmings, including the thickest sourdough toast I’ve ever seen. He absolutely loved it and it totally set him up for the work day ahead.

Our overall experience at Whinstone View was absolutely fantastic and it was exactly what we needed after a busy week. It felt so good to get away from the hustle and bustle, and really unwind. The food was great, the log cabin was gorgeous and the hot tub couldn’t have been more perfect. I truly recommend this place to anyone who wants a staycation or a little glamping trip away!

I was gifted a dinner, bed and breakfast stay at Whinstone View in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.
