Free Comic Book Day at Something For The Geekend Stockton and Forbidden Planet Middlesbrough – Sat 2 – Free Comic Book Day is the comic book specialty market’s annual global celebration, where participating comic shops give away comic books absolutely free to customers. Traditionally held on the first Saturday in May, it’s a must‑visit event for comic fans of all ages.
Teesside Mind’s Bark in the Park 2026 at Stewart Park – Sat 9 – From fun dog classes, demos and have-a-go Enviro-fun and Cani-Cross sessions, with trainers on hand for help and advice, to food and shopping stalls, there’s something for everyone and it’s all in aid of a great local cause. Steampunk Weekend at Tees Cottage Pumping Station – Sat 16 and Sun 17 – Step into a world of Victorian fantasy! Teesside Hospice’s Mooch With Your Pooch – Sun 17 – You’ll take part in a relaxed circular walk, starting and ending at the Mill Pup in Stokesley where you’ll get the chance to meet up with other pooches and their proud owners, enjoy some fresh air, and soak up the friendly community atmosphere. Tickets are £15 per adult and include a breakfast sandwich, a tea or coffee to go, and a finisher’s certificate featuring a photo of you and your dog. For just £3 per dog, your furry friend will receive a delicious pupachino and a Teesside Hospice doggy goodie bag. (Accompanied kids go free!)

Norton Archers Big Have-a-Go – Sun 17 – Have you ever wanted to try archery? Yes, of course you have! Well, now’s your chance at Norton Archers Big Have-a-Go 2026, part of Archery GB’s Start Archery week. Come along to Norton Sports Complex any time between 11am and 1pm on Sunday 17th May – we plan to be outside but there’s an indoor range as backup in case the weather isn’t too great. Real archery is available for anyone aged 8 years and over, at a cost of £2 for six arrows or £3 for twelve arrows with one-to-one coaching from one of our team of Archery GB qualified coaches. The River Tees: Past, Present and Future Guided Walk from Stockton Central Library – Thurs 21 – Step out and discover the stories of the mighty River Tees on this engaging guided walk, uncovering its industrial, social and natural history. Starting from Stockton Central Library, Reference Library on Thursday 21st, 9.45am. Free to attend, but booking is essential.
Darlington Doggy Festival – Sat 23 – Join us on Saturday 23rd, 11am–5pm at Darlington Market Square for a paw-some day out you and your furry friends won’t want to miss! There will be over 20 stalls, a splash zone and an agility course. Free to attend.
Birds and Bluebells: Guided Natural History Walk at Lazenby Bank with Tees Valley Wildlife Trust – Sat 23 – Discover the wildlife on your doorstep with a relaxed, guided nature walk at our Lazenby Bank Reserve. A lovely time of year to visit, Lazenby Bank is a brilliant place to see native bluebells and the reserve is a haven for birds. Whether you’re already familiar reserve, or would like to visit for the first time, join us for a leisurely walk and learn something new about the wildlife on this reserve.
Tractor Tuesday in Darlington town centre – Tues 26 – Tractor Tuesday is a free annual event, sponsored by Lloyd Ltd, held in Darlington featuring a display of tractors and farming machinery. Family-friendly activity to get up close with large farm equipment and ride on tractors.

Vintage Weekend at Hopetown Darlington – Sat 23 to Mon 25 – After the roaring success of last year’s VE Day celebrations, we are delighted to announce a full three-day Vintage Weekend this coming late May Bank Holiday weekend. It’s a proper knees-up celebrating times gone by filled with music, laughter, fine sights, friendly faces and good old British cheer. Across the weekend, expect nostalgia by the bucketful, with period sights, sounds and surprises at every turn. On Saturday you can enjoy a classic and vintage vehicle rally, Sunday is the shopping day at the vintage market and Monday is part day as we take a trip back to 1940s Darlington!

Matchbox Treasures at Preston Park Museum – Tues 26 and Thurs 28 – Get creative with our family craft activity Matchbox Treasures. Decorate your own matchbox, then head out into the park on a mini treasure hunt to collect small natural wonders to keep inside, from special pebbles and interesting leaves to delicate flowers.
Darlington Brick Show at Hopetown Darlington – Sat 30 and Sun 31 – Whether you’re a seasoned builder, a curious newcomer, or a family looking for a brilliant day out, this two day celebration of imagination is one you simply can’t miss. This year’s event is spreading across the entire site, turning the Museum, the Locomotive Works, and the Carriage Works into one giant brick built adventure zone! Your timed ticket gives you entry to the main show inside the Carriage Works whilst the rest of the site bursts to life with extra activities, mini build missions, and surprise creations waiting to be discovered.

The Frida Kahlo Night at The Rings Community Hub with Palette & Pop – Sat 16 – Come and soak up the Mexican vibes with us! This is one of our absolute favourite nights as we fully embrace the spirit of Frida — floral headbands, mono brows and all. We’ll be painting the legendary Frida Kahlo, celebrating her strength, creativity and individuality, and filling the night with colour, laughter and love.
Mosaic Trays at Creative Village CIC – Tues 26 – Join us to make your own serving/display tray design by using coloured tiles to mosaic onto the tray. Lots of design possibilities. Within the session you will learn how to cut the tiles to your desired shape, bond them to your tray and how to grout. Grouting must be done when dry so you can either join us the following week to grout or take some grout home with you.
Needle Felting at Make Do and Mend, Marske – Sat 30 – Learn the art of needle felting and create your own adorable felted creations. Early May Bank Holiday – Mon 4 – head to your local beer garden to soak up the Bank Hol vibes or take a walk outside if the weather’s good!
Star Wars Day – Mon 4 – watch a film if you’ve never seen any in the franchise or re-watch your fave.
World Cocktail Day – Wed 13 – try out the menus at some local cocktail bars. Take a look at Sortie in Darlington, Luna Blu in Yarm or The Artizan in Middlesbrough.
International Museum Day – Mon 18 – head to one of our many local museums.
Spring Bank Holiday – Mon 25 – another excuse to soak up the vibes!
