Since moving away from my mum’s, homemade Sunday dinners have become a bit of a rarity. A) because it seems like a lot of stress to make your own, and B) the washing up is a chore! And because my mum’s roasts were so blinkin’ good, going out for a Sunday dinner was always a last resort. But now as a grown up, going out for a Sunday roast is a total treat!
In Teesside, we’re absolutely spoiled for choice when it comes to cracking places for a Sunday dinner, and the latest to join the line up is Bedford Street Social. This quirky bar and brasserie started off as a brilliant bottle shop over lockdown, but has now flung open their kitchen doors for fantastic food! They kicked things off Latin-inspired street food, but have recently added Sunday roasts to their line up, and boy, are you in for a treat.

We got invited along to the dinner launch day, so I’ve got the whole scoop for you!
Getting to Bedford Street Social
Before I get stuck into talking about all things roasts, let me give you some travel pointers. As the name might suggest, Bedford Street Social is on Bedford Street in Middlesbrough. This is part of my favourite area – Baker and Bedford – which is packed full of lovely independent eateries, bars and shops. The exact address for your satnav is 21-23 Bedford Street, Middlesbrough, TS1 2LL.
In terms of parking, you can either get really lucky and grab a street parking space on Bedford, or park a little walk away. The street parking is free for 2 hours if you manage to nab a space, but some of the other car parks around include MIMA, Cleveland Centre, and Captain Cook Square (which is also free for 3 hours). Sunday dinners at Bedford Street Social
If you like a bit of variety and multiple choices, Bedford Street Social is perfect for you. You can choose between roast rib eye beef, corn fed chicken breast, roast belly pork, and rolled lamb shoulder. And all of these come with braised red cabbage, mash, roasties, roasted carrots and parnsips, seasonal veg, a giant Yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy. There’s also the option to add on extras, like cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets and stuffing!
And what’s even better is that there’s veggie and vegan options too. Everyone is included at Bedford Street Social! These feature bubble and squeak in place of the meat, and they sound absolutely fabulous.
What do I think of the dinners?
No word of a lie, our experience at Bedford Street Social was fantastic and the food was incredible. For starters, the place is gorgeous with a cool rustic feel and dried flowers on the ceiling. The staff were superb, friendly and really helpful when we were difficult and wanted to order extras after we’d already ordered our dinners. They’ve got everything running perfectly!
The Sunday dinners were absolutely flawless. We each ordered something different – lamb, beef and pork – so we got a good spread of the dishes. And every single one of us loved every bite! My lamb was beautifully tender and juicy, my stepdad was raving about his belly pork, and my mum completely cleaned her plate. The Yorkshire puds were a highlight because just look at how huge they were, and I loved the cauliflower cheese, which is unusual for me! It was all gorgeous and all of us said we’d go back in a heartbeat for round 2.
We also tried out the puddings – the sticky toffee pudding and lemon tart to be exact – which were also fabulous. The lemon tart was definitely with a standout, thanks to the not-too-tangy-not-too-sweet homemade lemon curd. It was super smooth and went down a little too easy! The sticky toffee was amazing too and perfectly light, which is just what you want in a sticky toffee pud.
How much are the dinners at Bedford Street Social?
One of the best bits about the roast dinners at Bedford Street Social is that they’re affordable and you get a real bang for your buck. Every dinner is £11.50, apart from the lamb shoulder, which is £13.50, and you get a heck of a lot of food for that price. It’s a right steal for something such good quality and for such generous portions!
What else is on the menu?
As I mentioned, Bedford Street Social celebrated their new kitchen with Latin-inspired street food, which you can still enjoy! This includes tacos, burritos and tortillas, so if you like a bit of spice, this is the ideal spot to turn up the heat. We absolutely loved our trip to Bedford Street Social and already can’t wait to visit again. It’s definitely one to get on your list if you’re looking for a new Sunday roast spot, but also if you’re a craft beer fan.
