Can you believe that we’ve stepped into the -ber months? I’ll admit, this is my favourite time of the year, but I’m looking back on August with such fondness. We absolutely jam-packed our summer weekends with stuff to make the most of it, and we loved every second! Here’s a look back on some of the best bits that I was particularly grateful for.

Edinburgh Fringe – I flipping love Edinburgh Fringe. I hadn’t been for a long time, but our family booked a couple of days during August, and it was brilliant. I love that the city feels like another place – the atmosphere is just different! And spots that you think you know well are transformed to fit with the vibe of the Fringe. It’s fab! We got to see a good mix of shows, but I particularly loved La Clique, a fantastic circus variety show. Think pole dancers, acrobats, extreme rollerskating… yep, it was as awesome as it sounds.
Fabulous food – throughout August, I ate some reeeeal good food. I booked us in to Peppermill Bistro for Matthew’s birthday, which was as incredible as always. We got to go and see Fusion at Ramside‘s new al fresco area and enjoy a three course dinner from their Asian-inspired menu. I had a lovely lunch with some of my Instagram pals at the gorgeous Pomegranate Persian Tea Rooms, which was a new spot to me in Great Ayton. It was an all round tasty month.
Local festivals – as we all know, August is festival season, and we headed off to Seaham Food Festival and Hardwick Festival. To be honest, we didn’t stay at Seaham for too long as it was incredibly busy and hot, but it was nice to be in the hustle and bustle, and try some street food bits. At Hardwick Festival, we had a great time bopping to Becky Hill and Ella Eyre. I especially liked all the extra touches they had this year with the photo opps and inflatables. I think it’ll be even bigger and better next year!
My first win at Sedgefield Show – this is going to sound so weird to non-show-going-people, but I got my first win at Sedgefield Show in August! We typically go to shows in the summer and my mum is a serial winner, but I’m not usually one to enter (mainly because I hate losing haha!). I entered millionaire’s shortbread last year and lost spectacularly, so I was hesitant to try again this year. But I decided to enter some butterfly cakes and millionaire’s shortbread… the shortbread is still my nemesis, but I actually came first for my butterfly cakes! Can I call myself an award-winning baker now?
Booking our first hot holiday – we’ve been itching for ages to go on a hot holiday. We loved our trip to Amsterdam, but we wanted to go somewhere with a pool and the sea where we could do nothing. So we booked a last minute 5 night trip to Gran Canaria for September! It’s somewhere neither of us have been, so we really can’t wait to go. It’s going to be so lovely to be in the warm and have a dip in the pool.
And there’s just a little snapshot of my August! I hope yours was equally as lovely and that you’ve been enjoying September so far. Let me know what you were grateful for.
