October 2021 Gratitude List – Freelancing & Phones

Can you believe that spooky month is over? In a way, it felt like October absolutely crawled by and I kept losing track of what day it was. But at the same time, it also flew over and now we’re in blinking November! Who else hasn’t started their shopping list yet? I’m always terrible at getting started and tend to leave it very last minute, but this is the month I kick my butt into gear!

As October has ended, it’s time for me to have a think about what I was grateful for throughout the month, and what made me particularly happy.

Pumpkin picking – listen, I know a lot of people find this very Americanised, but I’ve never done it before! However, after we discovered East Grange and their pumpkin picking sessions, we were just desperate to give it a go. We managed to book a slot for the very first day that the fields were open and we had so much fun. I didn’t know that pumpkins could come in so many shapes and sizes, and we came away with three big guys, a couple of mediums, and lots of little free ones. The best part was that it only came to about £10 and we helped out a local farm!

Freelance work – you all know me, I’ve had a few different marketing/content jobs over the past couple of years, but I’ve been looking to do a bit of freelancing here and there. Well, October was the month that I started doing that. I’ve been taken on by the lovely Teesside Tourist to do some content writing and SEO across their various websites, so definitely keep your eyes peeled for that.

Cool collabs – I love blogging because I like writing, sharing my opinions, and exploring the world of SEO (like a little nerd), but the collaborations are also a really cool part. And I seem to get some of the most amazing ones towards the end of the year, and October saw me work with Middlesbrough Art Weekender and Enjoy Tees Valley. As a Teesside advocate, doing things like this and being able to shout about the area is just such a huge privilege. I’m forever having to pinch myself!

A cheeky phone upgrade – I know this is such a trivial little thing, but towards the end of October, I was due a phone upgrade. I’ve been an Apple kind of gal since I was a teenager, so I ummed and ahhed about whether to try the new iPhone 13. And after a bit of research (and realising that trading my old phone in would make it cheaper than my 11), I took the leap! I’m still getting to grips with it, but it feels like a lovely treat and I’m currently obsessed with the camera. I’m hoping it’s a good little investment.

Halloween baking – October is my favourite time of the year for baking, purely because it’s Halloween and I can make some spooky stuff. And this year’s baking has been some of my favourite so far! I decided I wanted to be really creative and try some new things, so I came up with my Bloody Millionaire’s Shortbread and my Frankenslime Halloween Cookie Cups. They’ve been a big hit on Instagram and Pinterest, so if you haven’t given them a go, get them bookmarked for next year.

So that was October and we’ve only got 2 months left of 2021, eek! I’ve got high hopes for this last season, so we’ll wait and see what’s in store.

What were you grateful for in October?
